They're big in Hollywood and have got an impressive back catalogue between them.

But Jennifer Connelly and her actor-director husband Paul Bettany, both 44, cut a typically average figure when they headed out for dinner in New York on Monday with their children, Agnes, four, and Stellan, 12.

The down-to-earth family held hands as they made their way down the street minding their own business in Manhattan's Soho.

The couple, who have been married for 12 years, appeared to be deep in conversation as they chatted above their little ones' heads.

Jennifer looked chic in a black and white striped tee which she teamed with black cigarette pants and patent flats.

The Blood Diamond star rounded off her simple but sophisticated outfit with a number of chain necklaces and dark tortoiseshell sunglasses.

She wore her silly brunette tresses in a straight style which dusted over her shoulders and while she appeared laid back and relaxed she was held on tight to her daughter's hand.

Little Agnes looked cute in a navy wing dress and velcro sandals but appeared to have taken a tumble by the looks of the little pink plaster stuck to her right knee.

She wore her light brown locks in a side parting and looked adorable as she pursed her lips en route to the restaurant.

Holding her other hand was her elder brother Stellan, who looked every inch a model in the making with his boyish good looks and extra-long limbs.

The 12-year-old, who was named after actor Stellan Skarsgård, wore a white tee, lime green shorts and Converse, rounding off his outfit with wide-rimmed sunglasses which he wore clipped to his collar.

Behind them came dad, who looked smart in a shirt and jeans combo. He wore shiny black leather Chelsea boots and carried a suit jacket over his arm as they stepped out together.

The Iron Man actor, who was born in London, added some cool to his straight ensemble with a pair of snazzy sunglasses.

Missing from the group was 18-year-old Kai, Jennifer's eldest son from a previous relationship with David Dugan.

Jennifer has previously ruled out having any more children, telling Allure magazine: 'I knew that we were going to be done after number three. That's enough for us.'

The couple met while filming A Beautiful Mind in 2001 and were married in 2003 in a private family ceremony in Scotland.
