SEBASTIAN SHAKESPEARE: Gordon Ramsay's £4m gift to loyal Tana

They say that behind every successful man there is a strong, wise and hard-working woman. But, in the case of fiery chef Gordon Ramsay’s wife Tana, you can add ‘ultra-loyal’ to that heady list of adjectives.

With that in mind, Ramsay appears to have given his wife a multi-million-pound reward for her years of unwavering support — in the face of fairly hefty obstacles — by massively upping her stake in his business.

Newly updated shareholder records of Kevalake — the parent company Ramsay uses to run his global empire of restaurants — reveal that Tana’s shareholding in the business has increased from one share to 31,331.

This means Tana’s stake could now be worth as much as £4.1 million, with Ramsay’s amounting to £23 million.

It is certainly an intriguing development for the publicity prone couple, whose 19-year marriage has suffered more ups and downs than a poorly timed souffle.

In 2008, it was alleged that Ramsay, 48, had been unfaithful to his wife with ‘professional mistress’ Sarah Symonds.

Although Symonds claimed to have conducted a seven-year affair with the chef, Tana, now 41, chose to ignore the allegations and stood by him.

More recently, Ramsay was involved in a messy — and highly protracted — legal battle with Tana’s father, Chris Hutcheson, who was also his business partner.

Ramsay accused Hutcheson of siphoning off £1.4 million of company money to fund a secret second family and multiple mistresses, and to maintain his high-rolling, philanderering lifestyle, which his father-in-law denied.

The saga resulted in Tana becoming estranged from her family after taking her husband’s side in the row.

Five years ago, Hutcheson’s wife, Greta, wrote to her daughter: ‘Tana, you are not welcome anywhere near our door. I cannot believe that you have done this to your father. Until you dispose of that man, you are not welcome back.’

Last year’s farcical badger cull was widely thought to have cost ex-Environment Secretary Owen Paterson his job.

It also appears to have triggered bloodshed at Natural England, the government agency that oversaw the licensing of the cull.

But while the poor old badgers are shot, these chaps fared rather better. Director of strategy Jim Smyllie made a ‘voluntary exit’ from his £100,00-a-year post in December with a lump sum of £138,000 in his back pocket.

And science and evidence director Andrew Wood departed his £100,000 job in January with a £49,000 windfall. Scandalous, really — but as it’s only taxpayers’ moolah, who cares?

Michaela: I still fear my cancer will return

Springwatch presenter Michaela Strachan, who underwent a double mastectomy last year after being diagnosed with breast cancer, admits she still frets about it returning.

‘I have to have a check-up every six months — it’s never your favourite day when you’ve got to see your oncologist,’ she says. ‘You do have that feeling of dread and fear of: “What if the cancer has returned?”

‘When you have breast cancer, your biggest fear as a mother is leaving your child and partner behind. The thought of not being around to see Ollie grow up is just unbearable. The chances of it coming back for me are, hopefully, so slim because I caught it early.’

Strachan, 49, an ambassador for National Lottery Stars 2015, says she has started taking a special green juice supplement, recommended after her operation to aid recovery.

She adds: ‘It looks revolting — everyone on Springwatch takes the mickey out of it.’

Signs that London’s buoyant property market may be shifting down a gear.

Earlier this year, I reported that Fifty Shades Of Grey director Sam Taylor-Johnson was selling her six-bedroom mansion in London’s Primrose Hill for £14million.

Four months on and there are still no takers. ‘It’s still plastered in For Sale signs,’ says my Primrose Hill mole.

Isn’t it reassuring that even when a property is worth eight figures, agents still splatter it with their dreadful hoardings?

It's Princess Zara (just for one day!)

Her mother Princess Anne may have declined her a royal title but, for one day only, Zara Phillips was made to feel like royalty.

Two-year-old Matilda Wren presented the Queen’s granddaughter with a sticker bearing the slogan ‘Today I feel like a princess’ when she stopped to speak to her at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials in Lincolnshire at the weekend.

The Olympic equestrian previously competed in the prestigious four-day event, but this year was on hand to judge the picnic competition. Zara, 34, has described herself as ‘very lucky’ that Princess Anne removed her title, forcing her to find her own way in life. Still, being off the Civil List has had its perks — it’s enabled her to flex her earning power, said to be as much as £1 million a year.
