Trier, historically cried in Inglis Treves; French: Trèves; Luxembourgis: Tréier; Laitin: Augusta Treverorum; the Laitin adjective associated wi the ceety is Treverensis) is a ceety in Germany on the banks o the Moselle. It is the auldest ceety in Germany, foondit in or afore 16 BC.

Trier lies in a valley atween law vine-covered hills o ruddy sandstone in the wast o the state o Rhineland-Palatinate, near the border wi Luxembourg an athin the important Mosel wine region.

Wi an approximate population o 100,000 Trier is the fowert lairgest ceety in the state o Rhineland-Paltinate efter Mainz, Ludwigshafen, an Koblenz.
