Meanwhile, 23-year-old Sam had previously denied any involvement in the project earlier this year.
Shaken not stirred: After months of speculation, it was finally confirmed that Sam Smith had been picked as the voice of the new James Bond theme song
‘I actually have no idea. People seem to think I'm doing it but I have absolutely no idea what's going on,’ he said on Capital London. ‘I'm being deadly serious. I really think I would know by now!’
Later saying: ‘I heard Ellie Goulding was going to do it, I heard loads of different things. It's definitely not me.’
However, at the GQ Men Of The Year Awards on Tuesday night – where he was awarded the Ciroc Solo Artist Of The Year prize – he told MailOnline: ‘I've been keeping this secret for a year and it was intense. But I can't think of any better way to celebrate.’
Winner: Later that day, Sam headed to the GQ Men Of The Year Awards where he was awarded the Ciroc Solo Artist Of The Year prize meaning he had double the reason to celebrate
Mock-up: Sam took a break from festivities to post a hilarious shot on Instagram, which showed him mocked up as 007, with his face placed on Daniel Craig's body and added the caption: 'Oh and one other surprise - I'm bond.
The British star revealed that the track - co-written by the Latch hitmaker - will be called Writing's On The Wall.
'This is one of the highlights of my career,’ he said in a statement. ‘I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song.
'I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.'
