The former England and Manchester United midfielder said he used his 'connections' at the Football Association to give Romeo the chance to line up alongside Rooney as a late 13th birthday present.
Beckham, speaking to ITV, said: 'Romeo is obviously very lucky as part of his 13th birthday - because of a few connections still at the FA - is one of the mascots, so he is excited.'
The hunky star, who retired from the sport in 2013, looked every inch the proud father as he was joined by a host of his family members to watch Romeo storm the pitch.
