Everyone knows how it feels to be an awkward third wheel - even Bradley Cooper's mother.

The American Hustle star's mum Gloria Campano joined her 40-year-old son and his supermodel girlfriend Irina Shayk, 29, on their recent romantic beach break to Atlantic City in New Jersey.

As the aesthetically-pleasing pair, who have been dating for five months, cavorted in the sea, held hands and kissed, she was unfortunately left alone to read a book just a few feet away.

But Gloria isn't the only person to have been an embarrassing hanger-on.

Kris Jenner, George Clooney, Karlie Kloss and even Prince Harry have all acted as tag-a-longs at some stage.

Harry may be a modern day prince charming but the young royal is yet to find his one true love.

After ending long-term romances with Zimbabwean beauty Chelsy Davy, 29, and Mulberry model Cressida Bonas, 26, the ginger-haired heartthrob is forced to third wheel with his brother.

He is often seen tagging on to official and social engagements with Prince William and sister-in-law Catherine. However, the chemistry between the trio is clear to see and they are usually photographed in fits of giggles.

Seemingly not fazed about gate-crashing the precious private time between William and Kate, both 33, Harry even moved to live closer to their Kensington Palace home.

Meanwhile another A-list gooseberry is American television personality Kris Jenner.

She is often seen accompanying daughter Kim Kardashian, 34, and her rapper husband Kanye West, 38, to showbiz events.

As his close friend Cindy Crawford enjoyed an intimate selfie moment with her businessman husband of 17 years Rande Gerber, Tomorrowland actor George, 54, ruined the moment by pulling a silly face.

While the fivesome headed on a boat cruise down the River Thames in London, Karlie was left alone at the front of the vessel as Shake It Off hitmaker Taylor cuddled Calvin Harris and Topshop campaign star Gigi leaned on Joe Jonas.

Not one to miss out on the action is Khloe Kardashian.

The 31-year-old shared a picture on her Instagram page which shows her 17-year-old half-sister Kylie Jenner tied up in a tight embrace with her 25-year-old rapper beau, bodies held right up against each other, and their eyes closed.

But the intimate moment is lightened somewhat by Khloe joining in on the hug behind Tyga (real name Michael Ray Nguyen-Stevenson), her arms reaching round to enclose both him and Kylie in her embrace.

'A Michael sandwich!' the 31-year-old reality TV star wrote as she posted the picture, adding three smiley face emojis to the end of her caption.

Meanwhile Sarah Hyland joked that she is happy to play the third wheel with her close pals Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler in a fun Instagram snap.
