What a Pretty Woman! Kyra Sedgwick outshines star Richard Gere at premiere of their homeless drama Time Out Of Mind

They transformed themselves into hobos for their turns in homeless drama Time Out Of Mind.

But thankfully Richard Gere and Kyra Sedgwick were looking like their usual glamorous selves at the movie's premiere in New York on Tuesday.

In fact Mrs Kevin Bacon outshone her more illustrious leading man by wearing in a daring burnt orange dress that boasted a thrillingly daring split up the front, and which she garnished with an appealing black belt.

The Officer And A Gentleman star was looking dapper in a suit, open-necked shirt and leather shoes as he posed up with his co-star.

It was certainly quite the contrast to when the 66-year-old Buddhist actor appeared in bliss as he pretended to urinate on the street as he filmed scenes while in character last year.

Richard, who also served as producer, had developed the film over the past 15 years and went to great lengths to have it made - including having to shoot in places around the city as everyday life happened around him.

He said: 'We didn't have money to shut down Astor Place or Grand Central, so we had a test day to see if this was going to work, shooting with superlong lenses.

'I was in character and the clothes, and I made my way to a corner across the street from Starbucks in Astor Place and just stood there.

'No one paid any attention. Then I got a little braver and I had a coffee cup and just said "Can you help me out? Spare change?" We did a 45-minute take.

'I made about a buck and a half, but no one even made eye contact when they put money in my cup.'

Time Out of Mind, directed by Oren Moverman, is about a New Yorker who enters a shelter when he runs out of housing options, then struggles to put the pieces of his life back together and fix a troubled relationship with his estranged daughter.

Richard also explained how he appears in big budget studio movies - such as his leading role in The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel - in order to self-produce smaller, independent ones, such as Time Out of Mind and another new one set to come out with Dakota Fanning called The Benefactor

'The reality now is that we can finance these small, difficult films based on the work that I have done for the last 40 years, and the fact that people in Europe are still open to seeing my movie,' he told The WSJ.
