Nick Nolte, 74, feels the heat at the Malibu Chili Cook-Off as he enjoys the celebrity enclave's annual carnival

Nick Nolte raised a sweat during a day out at the annual Chili Cook-Off in Malibu on Sunday.

The veteran actor, who's 74, looked as if he'd caught the sun even though he wore a fedora and no doubt the spicy chili samples on offer helped boost the heat.

He also had reason to celebrate since his new movie A Walk In The Woods with Robert Redford did better than expected at the weekend box office, debuting in third place on its opening weekend.

Nolte, who's been known in the past for his 'hobo chic' style, dressed for comfort in loose fitting blue cotton slacks and a long-sleeved buttoned-up blue shirt.

In a concession to his advancing year, the actor carried a cane that he occasionally used as he strolled around the event that also included a carnival and fun fair.

He was accompanied by his partner Clytie Lane with whom he has a daughter Sophie, born in 2007.
