'That ship has sailed!' Julie Chen thinks Barbara Walters would ruin her TV legacy if she decides to return to The View

Julie Chen had plenty of opinions about her former daytime rival, Barbara Walters, during a guest appearance on Tuesday's edition of The Howard Stern Show.

The 45-year-old TV host thought that any return by Barbara to her Emmy-winning show, The View, would tarnish her legacy.

'That ship has sailed. No one can turn it around,' Julie said of the beleaguered talk show Barbara left over a year earlier.

Apparently, Barbara has been 'toying with the idea about whether or not she should go back and save' the show she co-created for ABC in 1997.

Julie was one of those present when Barbara, 85, brought up the idea at a party and was adamant that this was a bad choice.

'The whole room said, "Are you kidding me?"' Julie told Howard Stern, 61, on the radio program.

'Out of common sense, she should stay away,' added the host of both The Talk and Big Brother on CBS.

Barbara co-hosted The View for 17 seasons, between 1997 and 2014, and still acts as the daytime talk show's executive producer.

Since her departure, however, the show has struggled to keep both its audience and its panel of hosts.

With Whoopi Goldberg the only veteran host outlasting Barbara into season 18, several new replacements were tested.

Rosie O'Donnell, Jenny McCarthy, Rosie Perez, and Nicole Wallace had all come and gone by the end of that season.

One of Barbara's original co-hosts, Joy Behar, has already signed on to return in the upcoming season 19, joining Whoopi and Raven-Symone, Michelle Collins, Candace Cameron Bure, and Paula Faris.

2015's collection of episodes also marked only the second time in almost 20 years that The View was not nominated for the Outstanding Talk Show Emmy.

Unfortunately, Barbara's departure and the ongoing chaos at The View do not mean that she will likely jump ship in favour for The Talk.

'ABC won't let her,' declared Talk co-host Sharon Osbourne, 62, on the same episode of Howard Stern.

Julie agreed: 'She doesn't want to p*ss off her bosses, because she still has specials on ABC.'

'And she is a proper lady,' she added of her long-time friend and colleague.
