Chelsea Clinton speaks out about Kanye West's 2020 presidential run - and gives a VERY diplomatic answer when asked if she would ever consider voting for him

  • Hillary Clinton's daughter spoke about West with MTV News
  • Said the hip-hop star could inspire children to their own political dreams
  • But admitted her support would depend 'on who he’d be running against'
  • Her mom is running for president this time around... and if elected may decide to try for a second term in 2020

Chelsea Clinton is still hoping her mother Hillary makes it to the Oval Office, but some are already asking the former First Daughter about potential White House challengers five years down the road.

Namely Kanye West, who told the MTV Video Music Awards a few days ago: 'I have decided in 2020 to run for president.'

Chelsea, 35, who was peaking with MTV News about her family foundation's project about global women's rights, said she wasn't sure the hip-hop star would go through with his run.

However, she added: 'I definitely think who runs for office is really important.

'Even if him just saying that helps spark a little boy or a little girl who was watching the VMAs to think, ''Oh, wow! Maybe I should do that,'' that’s awesome.'

However, when asked whether she would support Kanye's quest to become leader of the free world, Clinton demured and hinted at the fact that her mother may be running for a second term then.

'I think it depends on who he’d be running against,' she said.

Kanye's endorsements for his run thus far have only celebrities and no politicians.

On Sunday night, fellow rapper Ice Cube told Daily Mail Australia, 'I'm voting for Kanye,'

'Who's better than Kanye that would run?' he said.

Ice Cube denied that he would run as Kanye's vice president, though Taylor Swift seemed to hint at the possibility when she posted the hashtag 'KanTay2020' on Instagram.

MTV's full interview with Clinton, now a Vice Chair of her family's Clinton Foundation, will air on the network on Tuesday at 10.30am.
