There is fresh hope the Spice Girls will reunite, albeit temporarily, as Geri Halliwell confirmed the Nineties girl group have been in 'talks' about celebrating 20 years since the release of their debut single and album next year in a new interview.

Geri, 43, was appearing on This Morning on Tuesday when she was quizzed about the possibility of re-grouping with Emma Bunton, Mel B and Mel C (Victoria Beckham has reportedly already opted out) to honour the 20th anniversary of the release of Wannabe and Spice in 1996.

The newly-married former Ginger Spice admitted there had been some discussion for the much-loved band to mark the momentous occasion, although she was anxious about getting fans' hopes up as nothing is concrete.

Speaking to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, she said: 'I think it's really flattering that people are still supportive of the Spice Girls individually and collectively, that's beautiful, it's really nice.

'It almost feels you know that it [the Spice Girls] belongs to everyone, like a generation. So I think it's one of those things that's been discussed, but until it's concrete I wouldn't announce it.'

When pressed by the ITV hosts to give more details, Geri said: 'I think it would be nice to celebrate it in some way. I can say that there's been talks. I think that's fair and honest.'

The Spice Girls last performed together at the Closing Ceremony of 2012 London Olympics.

Geri was also appearing on the daily chatshow to promote her new solo album which is her first in ten years.

She attributed her 10-year hiatus from the music business to her desire to be a hands-on mother to her daughter Bluebell who is now nine years old.

She said: 'I wanted to be a mum first and foremost, that's more important I think. But then I thought maybe I could write songs that we can all relate to, I love the creative process, but it's just taken me ages to go through that transition of being that pop star that wears hot pants to grow up a little bit and find that material that really reflects who I am, so I've been working on it for ages.'

Geri married Formula One boss Christian Horner in a lavish, star-packed ceremony in Bedfordshire in May - a day she claimed was the 'happiest' of her life.

She gushed: 'People talk about their wedding day but it truly was the happiest day of my life. It was so amazing.

'It’s really weird saying ‘my husband’ but my husband, he works for a race team, he runs a team and it was the Monaco Grand Prix a few days later… Basically he had the race on at the weekend so we had a little mini break up at the mountains outside of Cannes, a mini-moon.'

The stylish star cut an effortlessly chic figure as she was spotted outside the ITV studios following the rare TV appearance.

She slipped into a pair of black skinny jeans, a pretty white blouse and an oversized tailored jacket.

She added an extra feminine touch to her androgynous look in the form of a pair of black patent leather stilettos.
