Lionel Messi is used to running rings around burly centre backs week in week out but you fear the Barcelona forward may have slightly more difficulty getting past NFL star JJ Watt.

The Barcelona forward is currently on international duty with Argentina and posed for a picture with the imposing 6 ft 5 in frame of the Houston Texan defender after a training session on Saturday.

Watt, who has played for the Texans since being a first round pick in the 2011 NFL draft, shared the snap of him and Messi on Instagram and the Argentine barely reaches his shoulder.

Watt, clearly in awe of the four-time world player of the year, wrote on the social media site: 'The best football player on the planet.'

The Argentina squad are training in Houston, Texas after facing Bolivia in an international friendly at the BBVA Compass Stadium on Friday night.

Messi, who came on as a second-half substitute, scored twice as Argentina strolled to thumping 7-0 win against their South American opponents.

The brace moved Messi on to 48 international goals as he closes in on all time leading scorer Gabriel Batistuta, who netted 56, and coach Gerardo Martino says it is only a matter of time before Messi overtakes him.

'I am sure Leo will catch Batistuta as the team's leading scorer, he is getting closer,' Martino told reporters after the Bolivia match.

The former Barca boss went on to explain why the star forward had started on the bench.

'It is logical that the people who pay for tickets and the organisers of the games want to see Messi playing.

'But we had to think carefully about him because he has played a lot of games. Luckily, in a short time, he made it worth the price of admission.'
