Trouble on wheels! Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine cause mayhem on a mobility scooter on the set of Going In Style

Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine made a daring escape - while riding on a mobility scooter - on the set of their latest movie.

On Tuesday, the Brooklyn, New York set of Going In Style filled with smoke as the Hollywood legends rolled quickly away from security guards.

The 78-year-old Million Dollar Baby Oscar winner wore a wide grin as he released an obscuring cloud to distract his pursuers.

It was something of a complicated move for the actor, who was riding in the front basket of the scooter driven by 82-year-old Michael.

The cloud of smoke was not, however, Morgan's only defense - he had a carton of eggs stuffed in his shirt as well.

Casual style prevailed for the two actors, both of whom wore baseball caps - Yankees for Michael and Mets for Morgan - to help conceal their identities.

While the stars seemed committed to their bizarre chase scene, there did seem to be some danger - stunt doubles were spotted stepping in at one point.

Going In Style is a remake of a 1979 movie that focuses on a trio of elderly friends planning and executing a heist.

Alan Arkin, 81, plays the third of the friends, who want to take revenge on the company that cancelled their pensions after a move overseas.

All three of the film's stars are among acting's most successful men - their combined total of 14 Oscar nominations have resulted in wins for each of them.

Directed by Zach Braff and co-starring Matt Dillon, Ann-Margret, and Joey King, Going In Style will be released in May 2016.

Filming on the comedy is likely a welcome distraction for Morgan, who recently experienced a major personal tragedy.
