The next episode! Dr Dre's son Curtis Young to play his dad in unofficial Straight Outta Compton 'spin-off' after being snubbed in the original

Dr Dre's son Curtis Young is getting revenge on his father for refusing to cast him in Straight Outta Compton - by playing him in an unofficial spin-off.

The 33-year-old endured what must have been the most painful snub ever when his rap mogul father rejected his eldest's bid to play him in the biographical film - especially since Ice Cube was played by his own son O'Shea Jackson, Jr.

Now Young - who also raps under the name Hood Surgeon - looks set to play his father in an unconnected spin-off titled Dogg Pound 4 Life.

Ever since April, months before the surprise success of the NWA film, rapper Daz Dillinger has been pushing for a film depicting the slew of west coast rappers who rose to fame in the wake of the events of Straight Outta Compton, including Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur, Nate Dogg and Warren G, as well as the Dogg Pound founders Kurupt and Daz himself.

Although 'DPG4Life' has been reported as a sequel, Daz has insisted this is not the case.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 'official' sequel being considered by Universal is based on the book and documentary Welcome To Death Row by Straight Outta Compton producer S. Leigh Savidge.

On Monday Dillinger instagrammed several photos of the cast of the movie he seems to be putting together himself, including the actors playing the young 2 Pac and Suge Knight, with Curtis Young finally in the role of Dr Dre.

In an interview with hiphop magazine XXL last year, Young claimed he wasn't upset by his father's decision not to cast him - but admitted he had auditioned for it.

'I actually tried out for the role, ’cause the casting company called me,' he said. 'But my father wanted somebody with more acting experience, and I haven’t been acting for a long time, so I’m happy for the guy that got the role.

'It’s one of those things where we want what’s best for the movie and for the film,' he added. 'I had a lot of fans that were upset about it, but whatever’s best for the film, that presents it in that light, then I’m for it.'

When asked if he was disappointed, he replied: 'I want my father to be represented in the best way, so I didn't feel any type of way about it at all.'

The role ultimately went to 26-year-old up-and-comer Corey Hawkins. Easy E's son Lil Easy E was also originally considered to play his late father, but ultimately only Ice Cube was portrayed by his offspring.
