'Pipes are good': Sam Smith discusses recovery after vocal surgery, relationship with food and working on new James Bond theme

He famously had vocal cord surgery earlier this year.

And Sam Smith is well on the road to recovery.

The 23-year-old British singer sat down with NBC TODAY's Natalie Morales on Tuesday to discuss his life post-surgery and several other topics.

Sam definitely seems to be in good spirits after the procedure done in April as he said: 'Pipes are good. It's good, it's all feeling good.

'I just need to write songs that are too high to sing,' he joked.

As he is currently in the process of finishing up his In The Lonely Hour World Tour, he admitted it has not been easy rescheduling dates after being forced to take a few months off from performing.

He elaborated:  'It's been a struggle to reschedule time some of the shows because I've got to plan longer breaks in between shows.'

Another big change in the I'm Not The Only One hitmaker's life is the focus on his health as he has seen substantial changes in his body leading to a 50 pound weight loss.

He has been open about his love for food, so much so that he said he dreams of it.

Sam said:  'I love food so much, I went to sleep last night dreaming of tuna melts... Yeah tuna melt with crisps.'

Things have definitely changed in the talented singer's life as he said that it isn't just a diet and that his relationship with food has completely changed. 

As he has been open about being picked-on about being gay and fat while growing up, he surprised many fans by saying it was harder to be made fun of about his weight than his sexual orientation.

He elaborated: 'When someone calls you gay, there is not much you can do about that because I am. But when someone calls you fat there is something that you could do about that.'

Now post-surgery and weight loss, things seem to be on the up-and-up for Sam as it was confirmed on Monday night that he will be doing the theme song for the upcoming James Bond flick: Spectre.

He described to the the NBC morning show how excited he was for the opportunity as he said: 'Even saying it now, it feels very weird for me to be able to do it. It's been a dream of mine for a long, long time.'

Despite the speculation whether he would be providing the soundtrack for the anticipated action film, he kept mum on the matter and has yet to reveal anything about the song.

He did admit, however, the tone he will be looking for as he said: 'I can tell you, I just wanted to write a love song. Something classic and timeless.'

On Monday evening he dropped a major hint that he was behind the theme song as he shared a snap with a spotlight around him and the words 'Sam Smith - Writing's On The Wall - Spectre 007' emblazoned on it.
