Classy Elizabeth Olsen looks impeccable in clean white backless gown as she attends screening of Ruth and Alex at the American Film Festival in Deauville

She's the younger sister of two of America's most stylish stars.

But Elizabeth Olsen - the sibling of twins Mary-Kate and Ashley - certainly proved she's got her own touch of fashion finesse as she stepped out on the red carpet during the 41st American Film Festival in Deauville, France on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old also proved that being chic doesn't mean always putting on a flamboyant colourful display, keeping it painfully cool, stylish and elegant in a clean white dress.

The actress wowed as she walked down the scarlet runway in her floor-length showstopper, skimmingly neatly to her petite figure to show it off with ease.

Although she was pretty much covered up under the capped sleeved and high-necked garment, she did turn to reveal a racy backless section cut into teardrop shape.

The stunning Avengers: Age Of Ultron star's mid-length blonde locks were as simple and effective as her white gown, kept loose and in open, elegant curls, tumbling over her shoulders.

Her striking features were accentuated with clever make-up; contouring on her sharp cheekbones and a deep purple eyeshadow to make her clear blue eyes stand out.

She smiled and waved at onlookers as she went solo up the red carpet event - held for the screening of new film Ruth and Alex, which is called 5 Flights Up in the US.

The movie stars Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton as the leading characters, portraying a long-time married couple who have lived in a New York apartment, but are facing new trials and tribulations of having to move away.

And, although Elizabeth doesn't appear in the movie, she certainly made an impression as she graced the event on Wednesday evening, in the midst of the Deauville US Film Festival.

The talented actress is in the stunning region for the film festival for her new film I Saw The Light, in which she appears with rumoured boyfriend Tom Hiddleston.

A biopic, the British actor plays the role of singer-songwriter Hank Williams, and Elizabeth takes on the role of Audrey, Hank's wife, manager and duet partner.

Although she was crisp and shining in stark white on the night, earlier in the day during a photocall, Elizabeth had gone for a head-to-toe black look.

That's not to mean it was a dull ensemble, though: the actress covered her slender frame with tricky-to-wear black leather trousers and flat ankle boots.

Giving her aesthetic a distinct The Matrix vibe, she covered up her black jumper with an almost floor-length black coat.

The star looked in great spirits as she posed for snaps at the film festival, which ends on Sunday 13, and honours American movies.

Last year's winner was the Academy Award-winning Whiplash, and this year's films that are premiering include Everest, Danny Collins and Trainwreck.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth was recently romantically linked to Brit hunk Tom, 34.

The duo were first linked in May when they were pictured looking affectionate in Oxford and were most recently seen out in London together last month.

US Weekly reported that the pair had been hooking up with one another, with an insider telling the publication: 'It's casual. But they do make sure to text when they're apart.'

The magazine adds that they reportedly got close while playing husband and wife in their upcoming movie.

The rumoured romance comes after Elizabeth called off her engagement to actor Boyd Holbrook in January.

A source told US Weekly: 'She wants to make a new life for herself. She's having fun.'
