Effortlessly chic Helen McCrory showcases her toned arms in a patterned sleeveless frock as she attends art gallery private view

She's currently filming a feature film about the life and mysterious death of Vincent Van Gogh.

And Helen McCrory has clearly developed a taste for fine art as she attended a private view of an exhibition in support of the Sir Hubert Von Herkomer Arts Foundation on her night off.

The 47-year-old actress, who is married to Homeland star Damian Lewis, 44, looked incredible as she appreciated the work on display at the Alon Zakaim Gallery in London on Tuesday.

The sleeveless, turtle neck number cinched in at the waist and cut just below the knee, revealing just a hint of her slender pins beneath.

She teamed the busy dress with black pointy stilettos and added a splash of colour to her monochrome ensemble with a dusting of blusher and a bright red lip.

Helen and Damian tied the knot in July 2007 and have two children together - daughter Manon, nine, and seven-year-old Gulliver. And she says the pair of them have struck the perfect work-life balance now that the kids are growing up.

She told the Telegraph recently: 'You want the other one to be the best they can possibly be and to realise their ambitions, but you also have to balance that with your own wants and keeping the children at the centre of it all.

'It's a constant dialogue – "OK, so if you do this and I do that afterwards, I'll be here to keep things going.'''

Helen was originally cast as Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter movies (eventually played by Helena Bonham Carter), but had to forfeit the role when she found out she was four months pregnant with her second child during a routine health check.
