Show us your shoes! Contestants reveal the state-themed footwear they will show off during parade at the Miss America pageant

From butterflies and snowflakes to dice and dinosaurs, these are the shoes that the Miss America contestants will wear at this weekend's pageant.

The competition's organising committee unveiled the footwear that each of the 52 contestants will wear during Saturday's evening 'Show Us Your Shoes' parade.

Most of the shoes have specific designs to their contestant's home state with some having more elaborate designs than others.

Some of the most striking items are those designed for Miss New Jersey, who in a nod to the pageant's Atlantic City history, sees her shoes feature dice and Monopoly money.

Miss Idaho has a potato design, Miss District of Columbia honours the U.S. Marine Corps, Miss Florida has the Gators logo on her shoes while Miss Kansas sports wheat on hers.

One of the most unusual pair is for Miss Montana, whose shoes feature green dinosaurs.

The Miss America pageant starts on Saturday with the winner being crowned in Sunday's night's nationally televised finale.

Contestants from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico are vying for the crown. The U.S. Virgin Islands are not taking part this year, as they could not field the required minimum number of entrants.

Preliminary rounds for the weekend's pageant began yesterday with Miss South Carolina Daja Dial winning the swimsuit competition and Miss Iowa Taylor Wiebers winning the talent portion.

She won the praise of judges after performing the song 'Don't Forget Me' from the TV show 'Smash'.

Afterwards she said: 'I was a huge fan of that show. That's what all we contestants want. We don't want the judges to forget us.'

Meanwhile it has been announced that Vanessa Williams, who resigned her Miss America crown in 1984 amid a nude photo scandal, will return as head judge for this year's pageant.

Miss Williams, the first black Miss America gave up her crown after Penthouse magazine published sexually explicit photographs of her taken several years earlier.

She has since went on to have a successful career in film, TV and music starring in Ugly Better and Desperate Housewives.
