Buy your own village: Heiress’s daughters put £10million Scottish estate on the market – complete with SIXTEEN houses and plenty of stag to shoot

  • Sprawling Kinnaird Estate, near Dunkeld, in Perthshire, boasts 16 properties and is on the market for £9.6million
  • The 6,200-acre plot also boasts three lochs, holiday cottages and rugged countryside for shooting and hunting
  • Described as a 'once in a generation' opportunity, the estate is being sold both as a whole and in six individual lots

Many homeowners abandon their cramped city flats in favour of a more spacious home in the country.

And with 16 properties and acres of unspoiled countryside, this Scottish sporting estate certainly offers more than enough breathing room.

The stunning Kinnaird Estate, near Dunkeld, in Perthshire, has been put on the market by the daughters of an American Heiress. Would-be Lords of the manor can snap up the entire 6,200-acre plot for less than £9.6million.

Described as a 'once in a generation' buying opportunity, the estate is being sold both as a whole and in six individual lots. It boasts three picturesque hill lochs, woodland and plenty of grazing ground for animals.

The estate also holds both shooting and fishing rights, giving hunters the opportunity to bag what is known as a 'MacNab' - a stag, a salmon and a brace of grouse - all in one day.

The centrepiece of the house is the 10-bedroom Kinnaird House, which was run as a five-star hotel by heiress Constance Ward. Mrs Ward was married to the late Reginald Ward, son of Sir John and Lady Ward who bought Kinnaird in 1927 and used it as a sporting estate and lodge.

When her husband died, Mrs Ward moved to Kinnaird permanently and lived in Balmacneil House, one of the 15 other properties on the estate. Some of the cottages are rented out as part of a holiday lettings business.

Rebecca Boswell, of Bidwells, which is marketing the estate, said: 'The sale presents a very rare opportunity to buy one of the most sought after and accessible sporting estates in Scotland.

'Together with Knight Frank we are delighted to be offering this property for sale as it has great diversity with a range of land types, income streams, sporting and residential assets. It is difficult to imagine a more rounded estate in Scotland.'

Sitting above the village of Strathtay, Kinnaird offers excellent transport links to Perth, Edinburgh and Glasgow to the south, and Pitlochry to the north.
