• 13.08.2015 - After careful consideration, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia decided to authorise the president of the arbitration court to appoint an arbitrator after the recent resignation of Mr Ronny Abraham. The adopted decision will provide the greatest amount of credibility to the court and the final decision. Thereby, Slovenia shows the tribunal that it trusts the judgement of the president of the court and the entire tribunal to fulfil the tasks defined in the arbitration agreement.

  • Response to the resignation of arbitrator Ronny Abraham

05.08.2015 - We regret the resignation of Ronny Abraham from his position as an arbitrator, and do not understand the reasons for it. We believe tha the court should continue its work, as it should not allow Croatia's arbitrary and unilateral exit to stop the entire proceedings. This would be contrary to the fundamental principles of arbitration. We hope that the court will continue and finish its work in full composition in accordance with the arbitration agreement. Slovenia will adopt a decision on the next arbitrator in set time.

Government Priorities

The new cabinet under Miro Cerar has given new impetus to Slovenia. Several years of economic crisis have revealed a number of social problems, which the new ministerial team will be forced to take on if it is to restore the country’s international reputation and economic strength.

On 16 January 2015, Slovenia submitted an action plan for the execution of the ECHR judgement concerning the foreign currency savings in Ljubljanska banka in former Yugoslavia.

With the commencement of oral proceedings before the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) , Slovenia and Croatia enter the final phase of resolving their territorial and maritime border dispute. The arbitral award should be final by 2015.

Cooperation, help and development for the Western Balkans regions is one of the central priorities of Slovenia’s foreign policy.
