A woman has put a hilarious twist on the traditional 'first day of school' photoshoots that so many parents tend to share at this time of year, featuring herself in the image, celebrating her daughter's departure with coffee and tequila, while her child pouts grumpily in the background.

Jessi Kittrell, from Virginia, who is in fact a professional photographer, posed up for the witty portrait alongside her daughter Bailey, who had her first day of kindergarten earlier this month; the youngster obligingly sat outside her house with the obligatory 'first day of kindergarten sign' - but that's where the traditional aspects of the photo ended.

Instead of smiling happily into the camera, young Bailey instead can be seen pouting up a storm while perched on the steps leading up to her front door, while her 39-year-old mother can be seen standing in front of her, wearing a bright pink dressing gown, tequila in one hand, coffee in the other, and a sign that reads: 'Bye Felicia!'

'And it has arrived, the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hahahahaha I couldn’t resist this, you all know I am really gonna miss her (maybe? lol) [sic]' Jessi captioned the image, which she posted to the Facebook page for her photography business, Happy Acres Photography.

But while some fans of her Facebook page were quick to criticize Jessi for being 'so insensitive' about her daughter's feelings on her first day of school, the mom-of-four explained to Buzzfeed that she came up with the idea for the shoot because she was so upset about her child going to school that she needed something to distract from all that emotion.

'I was starting to get emotional that she was going to go to school,' she explained, before adding that she wanted to create a funny photoshoot because 'laughter is the best medicine'.

And Jessi added that, despite the photo suggesting otherwise, her daughter was actually 'really, really excited' to start her first day of school.

Picture-perfect: The Virginia-based 39-year-old also shared some images of her daughter posing in a more conventional manner, including this one which she shared the day before Bailey headed off to school

Cheeky! Jessi admitted that she had received some negative feedback on the image, but insisted that the picture was only ever meant to be light-hearted and fun

And while the loving mother admitted that she has had some less-than-enthusiastic feedback about the shoot, the response on the whole has been incredibly positive - with many people taking to Facebook to praise the mother-daughter duo for their creativity and originality.

'Sounds like a mom with a great sense of humor!' one person wrote, while another added: 'Awww such a cute photo... I freakin love it! I wish I would have thought of something like this.

'This would be an awesome photo to put up on the wall. [sic]'

And for those who weren't overly pleased with the photographer's original efforts, she has also posted a series of cute-as-a-button images of Bailey; the first was taken prior to the young girl's first day at school, while other were shared after her second day.

Bittersweet: The loving mother admitted that she used the fun photoshoot as a way of forgetting her sadness at the thought of her daughter heading off to school for the first time

'Oh my goodness, I can not believe my baby starts kindergarten in the morning........... anyone got a Kleenex, heck give me the whole box! [sic]' Jessi posted alongside the first image, which sees her daughter posing in a beautiful white dress, while wearing a brightly-colored flower crown.

In the second set of images, taken in the same woodland setting, Bailey shows off her more cheeky side, as she pokes her tongue out at the camera.

'Sweet Bug on her second day of kindergarten,' Jessi wrote alongside the second set of images, before revealing that she wanted to share another batch of photos in an attempt to prove to those who had criticized her first shoot that it was only ever meant to be light-hearted.

'No I am not going to post a pic of her every day she goes to school but I thought after some of yesterday's negative comments about her clothes, her pouting, and even some personal attacks on me I would post a fun cute picture of her and her personality (and her cute fashion sense too, lol),' she added.
