Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen put on a united front during a date night in Boston on Monday.

The couple were spotted hand-in-hand en route to a cinema, but they both showed the strain of a difficult few months.

The New England Patriots quarterback, 38, and his 35-year-old model wife looked tense and miserable on the low-key outing.

The pictures emerged just a day after the footballer shot down the speculation during an interview on Boston radio station WEEI.

'We're in a great place. I'll just say that,' Brady said on Tuesday.

'I'm a lucky man. I've been very blessed with support from my family and certainly her. There's no bigger supporter than I have than her and vice versa.

Us Weekly reported last week that the Vogue model recently consulted a divorce lawyer, but that Brady was allegedly not taking her actions seriously.

'Tom thinks it's only a threat,' a source claimed to the magazine. 'But this is definitely a rough patch.' The insider added: 'Things are very tense right now. This could be the end of them.'

Us Weekly also noted that the couple - who married in 2009 - did not celebrate their birthdays together this year – his last month and hers in July.

Gisele did mark Brady's big day however by sharing a photo which showed the pair and their children enjoying a vacation, along with the caption: 'Happy birthday my love! We're so blessed to have you in our lives. Thank you for always giving us so much love. We love you! #love #family.'

The couple share two children together, five-year-old Benjamin and Vivian, two, while Gisele is also stepmother to his eight-year-old son John from his relationship with Bridget Moynahan.

After the divorce reports Gisele shared an Instagram snap over the weekend which hinted that everything was rosy in her household.

In the heartwarming image, Brady is seen playing soccer with Vivian Lake, which the Brazilian bombshell captions 'and my heart melts #biggestlove #family'.

In the interview Brady also discussed a hat that was found in his locker which made it appear he is a Donald Trump supporter.

'He sent it to me via RKK (Robert Kraft),' Brady said. 'I've known him since 2002 where I judged one of his beauty pageants, imagine that. I was a judge at a Miss USA pageant in 2002, so I've known him a long time. He always gives me a call on different types of motivational speeches and at different times. Now that he's running for president he sent me a hat and he gave it to RKK a couple of weeks ago so it found a place in my locker.'

When asked the quarterback would not answer if he would vote for Trump, but said he was a 'good friend' and that the pair had spent time together golfing in previous years.

'It's pretty amazing what he's been able to accomplish as an entrepreneur and then as a television star and now running for political office,' he said.

Solo trip: Gisele visits the TB12 Sports Therapy Center at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts last week.

'People who can do those types of things and transition into different arenas and still have that type of appeal and carry over — he's obviously appealing to a lot of different people. He's a helluva lot of fun to play golf with.'

Brady's interview comes as his four game suspension was overturned last week.

The athlete was accused of being privy to Patriots staff willfully deflating footballs in the 45-7 rout of the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship game.

He said in the interview: 'Sometimes in life you think at the hardest times in the life, those are the things you learn from the most.

'I'm sorry that whatever has happened has taken the focus away from my team and what we accomplished last year,' he continued.

'I think that it should have been a very joyous offseason and I'm sure it was for a lot of people and it was for me at times, but like I said, some of those things are pretty personal.'

After countless attempts at settlement, US district Judge Richard Berman decreed that the suspension was 'premised upon several significant legal deficiencies.'

Judge Berman had urged the parties to come to agreement, but with the season kicking off next week, he took matters into his own hands.

In a 40-page document, Berman said it was unfair that Brady was subjected to a four-game ban, the same dished out to players who break the NFL's substance and abuse policy.

This summer his wife also came under fire when she attempted to avoid media attention by wearing a burqa while as she checked into a famous plastic surgery clinic in Paris.

She gave herself away by wearing open-toed sandals - an unusual sight in traditional Muslim clothing - as well as using her chauffeur of five years to drive her there.
