Manchester United are close to agreeing a new contract with goalkeeper David de Gea in a dramatic turnaround. The Spain international's agent Jorge Mendes arrived at the club's Carrington training ground on Thursday afternoon for talks with Louis van Gaal and club officials in what would represent a remarkable coup for the club just days after he looked set to join Real Madrid. De Gea was left upset and perplexed after his £29million deadline day move to Madrid collapsed. The Spanish side blamed United yet, in the ensuing inquests, De Gea has been convinced that the Old Trafford club were not to blame and indeed want him to stay.
