She took some much-needed time away from the spotlight to bond with her daughter Edie.

But Keira Knightley left her baby at home for the evening as she got back to work at a party to celebrate her Broadway debut in Therese Raquin.

The actress dressed up for the evening in a blue long-sleeved empire line dress which flattered her post-pregnancy body at the bash in New York.

A pair of red peep-toe heels added a flash of colour to the outfit. 

Her long brown hair hung loose and unstyled, while Keira wore just the minimum of make-up.

The 30-year-old and her Klaxons rocker husband James Righton welcomed daughter Edie in London in May of this year.

The couple have been spending time together in New York as they bond with their baby, allowing Keira to fit in her rehearsals around caring for her three-month-old.

But with Keira's new play opening next month, the actress is preparing to get back to work.

Keira will tread the boards in The Roundabout Theatre Company's production of Therese Raquin, in which she plays the title role.

While few would call the unforgiving schedule of a Broadway show easy, it will certainly be more family-friendly than being away from home on a film set.

The production by Helen Edmundson is based upon the novel by Émile Zola and will be directed by Evan Cabnet. 

While Keira has not appeared on Broadway before, her West End debut in The Misanthrope won her an Olivier Award nomination.

When not rehearsing for Broadway, Keira will be promoting her new movie Everest, which will hit screens later this month.

The film focuses on a climbing expedition on Mount Everest, which is devastated by a severe snow storm.

Keira finally confirmed that to the world that he first child's name was Edie in July, when she gave her first post-baby interview and silenced speculation over whether she'd welcomed a boy or a girl.

Speaking to Elle magazine: 'It's not pleasant,' she said of her significant lack of sleep. 'I never thought that I could actually do it for the amount of time that I've done it.

'Also, I have to say, as a woman, you hate certain parts of your body.

'You go through those periods where you look in the mirror and you think, 'Oh, if only I had different legs or arms or whatever.'

'You go through pregnancy and labour and then feeding the kid and you go, "Wow, my body is totally amazing, and I'm never going to not like it again, because it did this, and this is f***ing extraordinary."'
