'Just doing his job': Johnny Depp discusses legal drama over dogs in Australia while getting kissy with host Jimmy Kimmel

Johnny Depp has so far only laughed off accusations that he secretly smuggled his beloved dogs Boo and Pistol into Australia.

But the 52-year-old Hollywood superstar made his true feelings known on Thursday when he spoke about the scandal in depth for the first time on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! chat show.

Depp continued his tradition of kissing the talk show host on the mouth and seemed baffled by the whole legal drama he was ensnared in back in May.

He joked that the Australian authorities missed the illegal items he had really smuggled in.

Depp failed to hide his distaste for Barnaby Joyce, the Australian Agriculture Minister who held a press conference in which he threatened to euthanize the dogs, calling him a 'weird, sweaty-pated gut man'.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean star let his anger shine through after Kimmel mentioned Joyce's threats to throw Depp's wife Amber Heard, 29, in jail over the scandal.

'If they did that I'd just fly to Australia and assault that man,' Depp said of Joyce. 'So that I could go to jail.'

'Right. Jack Sparrow's not going to stand by and let this happen,' Kimmel said, referring to Depp's most famous character.

Depp called the legal drama the 'most interesting' one he has ever been caught up in, and insisted he and Heard were caught by complete surprise.

'We were under the impression that we had all the paperwork done for the dogs. We were there with the dogs in front of everybody,' he insisted.

He then joked that the Australian authorities were so caught up at looking at the pet pooches they missed the real contraband, saying with a mischievous smile: 'There might have been other things smuggled. But they seemed to miss that bit.

'Might have been. Could have been,' he added.

When Kimmel asked 'what kind of maniac' Joyce was after playing clips of his press conference, Johnny initially played it diplomatically.

'Maybe he's - he's just doing his job,' Johnny said with a smile.

But picking his words carefully, he continued: 'This sort of weird, sweaty-pated gut man who decided that two five-, six-inch Teacup Yorkshire Terriers would harm the country in some way.'

As Kimmel laughed, Depp continued: 'He's got a point. Especially when you consider that Australia has the most poisonous creatures on earth. Everything will kill you in minutes.'

Depp was there to promote his new movie Black Mass and admitted he nodded off repeatedly while watching it for the first time.

But rather than being the movie's fault, Depp admitted he struggles to watch any films.

'I have a problem watching films of any kind, unless it's a documentary, I can watch those,' he said.

'But cinema, films, I become narcoleptic.'

After explaining that he 'broke my rule' of not watching his own movies by actually sitting through a screening of Black Mass at the Venice Film Festival, he insisted his narcolepsy kicked in.

'I fell asleep about 15 times,' he said, adding that his wife had to repeatedly nudge him to wake him up.

He also revealed that he got his Boston accent to play notorious mobster James 'Whitey' Bulger by hanging out with 'one of my all-time guitar heroes, Joe Perry from Aerosmith'.

'Joe's got a pretty good thick Boston accent, so I just sponged it,' Depp admitted.

Depp and Kimmel had continued their late night 'bromance' where they left off - with a kiss.

The last time Depp was on Kimmel's show they had shocked viewers with a full kiss on the mouth.

They repeated the lip lock as soon as Johnny walked out, with another at the end of the interview, too.

But Kimmel insisted he was doing what everyone in his audience wanted to do.

'There are a lot of handsome guys in Hollywood and there are a lot of guys that women get excited about - but you struck a nerve somewhere, like, in the 90s that is never going to go away,' Kimmel told him.

'This audience is so horny for you right now.'

A blushing Depp joked that it would be 'quite an undertaking' to follow through on that.

Kimmel told him: 'But I think you could do it - I really think you could get through everybody. Hey, do you love your fans or not?'

'I do and I'll prove it,' Depp said to wild applause. 'I will.'

They also spoke about Johnny's new album Hollywood Vampires with Joe Perry, Alice Cooper, Matt Sorum, Duff McKagan and guest appearance from The Doors' Robby Krieger and even Sir Paul McCartney.

The band did not perform, as previously speculated.

Instead, the band MuteMath played on the roof, with Kimmel saying: 'I don't think we've ever had a band on our roof before - and we picked the hottest day of the year to do it.'
