The 71-year-old rocker caused controversy in 2007 when he claimed once his father Bertrand passed away in 2002 at the age of 84, he mixed his remains with cocaine and inhaled them.

He said: 'The strangest thing I’ve tried to snort? My father. I snorted my father. He was cremated and I couldn’t resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow.'

The veteran musician later insisted the statement was merely a comment on how close he was to Bertrand and not a genuine anecdote.

Keith and his bandmate's hard partying ways are the stuff of legend after they became renowned for their drug-taking, drinking and womanising since the band founded in 1962.

Former addict Keith gave up his heroin habit in 1978 and eventually stopped using cocaine after an accident in 2006 in which he fell out of a tree, requiring brain surgery and a metal plate in his skull.

It is yet unknown what the rock star's daughters have to say about his bizarre plans with his ashes.

Keith's strange announcement comes a week before the release of his forthcoming Netflix documentary Keith Richards: Under The Influence.

The film gives an in-depth look into Keith's musical inspirations and how it is to still be performing as a septuagenarian.

In the trailer for the film, the rocker waxes lyrical about death once more, musing: 'Life’s a funny thing. No one wants to get old but no one wants to die young, either.'

The movie, which is directed by Oscar-winning moviemaker Morgan Neville, will have its world premiere next week at Toronto Film Festival.
