What is one thing you would change about yourself?
My barnet (hair)!
What’s your motto?
You only get out of football what you put in.
You can have five people to a dinner party, who would they be?
Jose Mourinho, Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Rafa Benitez — and Jamie Carragher to really stir up the s*** between them!

How do you want to be remembered?
Someone who is honest, loyal and gave everything he had.
Aside from your family, what’s your most important possession?
My medals that I’ve won in my career.
What was your first car and how much did it cost?
I got insured on my mum’s white Nissan Bluebird. It must have been worth 600 quid.
Tell us a box set to watch.
Entourage.

What do you think about social media?
It’s brilliant if you use it in the right way; if you’re not killing people on it.
If you could be one sportsman for a day?
Jordan Spieth. I’m into my golf. I love watching it, but I’m average at playing it.

If you have a golden ticket for a sporting event, what would it be?
Augusta.
Your greatest sporting legend?
Tiger Woods.

Sir Alex Ferguson said in his autobiography that Gerrard was not a 'top, top player'
LA in three words?
Very, very, cool.
If you could ask one question to a sportsman/sportswoman?
I’d ask Alex Ferguson, ‘Do you really think that I am average?’ (In Ferguson’s autobiography, he said Gerrard was not a ‘top, top player’, despite earlier trying to sign him.)
Favourite super hero?
Superman.
List these five midfield players in order: Gerrard, Keane, Lampard, Scholes, Vieira.
Keane No 1. The rest? They’re all different. Frank’s the best goalscoring midfielder, Scholes the best footballer, Vieira the most difficult opponent... I loved playing against all of them.

Rate your life out of 10...
At the moment, life is a 10. When I left Liverpool it was emotional and, although I’m not the captain of Liverpool any more, I look at my life — I am 35 — and I’m proud of my career so far. My family are happy, I’m living in a cool city and I’ve got a competitive game of football to look forward to at the weekend.
