Re-Bourne! Matt Damon and co-star Julia Stiles meet up under cover of night as they film fifth movie in the spy franchise

It was a late night for everyone on the set of the as-yet-untitled fifth film in the blockbuster Bourne series.

But the darkness was perfect for Matt Damon's character Jason Bourne to meet up with one-time CIA agent Nicky Parsons, played by Julia Stiles, on the Spanish island of Tenerife on Wednesday.

Both were casually dressed in dark colours as they strolled around the set, smiling and chatting.

Matt donned a black leather jacket and black jeans while the 34-year-old blonde wore a jean jacket and matching dark blue skinny jeans.

The first picture of the 44-year-old on the set of the sequel emerged on Tuesday when producer Frank Marshall tweeted a shirtless snap of the ripped star.

He captioned it: 'First day of principal photography complete and happy to report, BOURNE is back! #Bourne2016.'

Frank produced all four previous Bourne films: Identity, Supremacy and Ultimatum, as well as Legacy starring Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross, which collectively made $1.2billion at the box office.

The storyline and full cast have yet to be revealed but it has emerged that Tommy Lee Jones will be Matt's CIA counterpart. Last week Vincent Cassel joined the cast as the villain in the new film.

Others in the line-up include The Man From U.N.C.L.E.'s Alicia Vikander.

Paul Greengrass, who directed Supremacy and Ultimatum, returns to the helm and will also write the screenplay for the first time along with Matt.

The character of Jason Bourne, an amnesiac who eventually learns that he's an assassin trained by the CIA, was created by author Robert Ludlum who wrote the first three novels in the series.

The new Bourne movie is slated to hit the big screen on July 29.

Meanwhile, Matt is presently at the Toronto Film Festival in Canada promoting his next movie The Martian.

On Friday, he and co-stars Kate Mara, Jessica Chastain and Donald Glover spoke onstage during a press conference at TIFF's Bell Lightbox space in Toronto.
