Presidential hopeful Donald Trump mocked online after being duped into reposting an image of UK Labour Party's new Socialist leader

  • Trump sent image of Jeremy Corbyn, the new leader of the Labour Party
  • User, who is a Labour supporter, claimed the picture was of his father
  • Said father was thinking of voting for the first time and backing Trump
  • The Donald then reposted the image along with the message: 'Great'

One is an outspoken billionaire businessman, born and raised in the concrete jungle of New York, who believes in the power of pure capitalism to 'make America great again'.

The other is an arch-Marxist, raised by his Left-wing parents in a leafy country home in rural England, who believes in taxing the richest up to 75 per cent of their income.

But Donald Trump was this morning duped into retweeting a picture of new UK Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn despite the two holding polar-opposite views.

The gaffe happened after a Twitter user named Hamish, who calls himself a Labour Party member and 'professional troll', sent Trump a picture of the grey-haired and bearded Mr Corbyn.

The image was posted along with a message, saying: 'My Dad is thinking of voting for the first time ever for you.'

Moments after receiving the picture, at a little after 4am U.S. time, Trump retweeted it on his profile, adding his own comment, which simply read: 'Great.'

Since being posted, The Donald's message has itself been retweeted more than 7,500 times and favorited almost 4,500 times.

On the attack was Governor Boddy Jindal, one of Trump's rivals for the Republican nomination who has previously branded him a 'fool' and mocked his hair as being like 'a squirrel sitting on his head.'

Tweeting a picture of shirtless Russian President Vladimir Putin riding on a horse, Jindal said: Wow. Is there a world leader you DO recognize? Is this guy going to vote for you too?'

While most simply enjoyed laughing at Trump's mistake, others pointed out that a potential President should know who is leading the major political parties of key allies.

One user, going under the handle of IndieEars, wrote: 'Haha! Trump duped into retweeting picture of Jeremy Corbyn because he continues to know f*** all about foreign policy.'

Meanwhile, another user called Yroredraw added: 'This is the guy Donald Trump could be facing soon if they both get elected and he has no idea who he is.'

Corbyn, a hard-left candidate who only just made it on to the Labour leadership ballot after backers came forward at the 11th hour, pulled off an overwhelming victory on Saturday to be elected party leader thanks to backing from Trade Unions and grassroots supporters.

Mr Corbyn and Trump are similar in the sense that they were initially pegged as outsiders in their respective leadership races before going on to build commanding leads. Aside from that they are complete political opposites.

Following his win, Corbyn went to a London pub to sing Socialist anthem 'The Red Flag', while he has previously defended ISIS and Putin.

It is not the first time Trump has come unstuck on Twitter. In July his team unveiled this campaign poster, only for Twitter users to point out that the soldiers pictured marching in the bottom right corner are Nazis

Last year Trump was also widely mocked after retweeting this image, believing it to be of a user's dead parents, when it is in fact of British serial killer couple Fred and Rosemary West

Trump, meanwhile, has backed tough military action against ISIS, regularly boasts about his wealth and business credentials, and has promised supporters 'so much winning' against Russia.

This is not the first time that Trump has been caught out on Twitter. Back in July he was lambasted after his campaign posted featured an image of Nazi soldiers emblazoned over the American flag.

Last year he was again tricked by a user going under the name of 'feckhead' who sent him a dated image of a couple standing together, along with a message claiming it was the user's dead parents and asking for a retweet in support.

Trump duly retweeted the message, only to later delete it when it turned out the couple were actaully notorious British serial killers Fred and Rosemary West, who raped and killed young girls in the 70s before burying their bodies near their home.

Trump is currently leading the race for Republican presidential nomination with 32 per cent support, as neurosurgeon Ben Carson trailing a distant second with 19 per cent.
