Hervé Léger breathes new life into the bodycon dress with bold prints and fun fringing - as brand celebrates its 30th anniversary at New York Fashion Week

  • Designer Max Azria showed his Spring 2016 collection on Saturday afternoon at Skylight at Moynihan Station
  • The collection also featured several flared dress-over-trouser ensembles

Hervé Léger's iconic bodycon dress has become a staple piece in the wardrobes of some of the world's most stylish fashion fans.

So it came as no surprise to see the much-loved style playing a key role in the brand's designer Max Azria's New York Fashion Week show on Saturday afternoon, albeit with a few fun and fresh twists.

Mr Azria hosted the brand's 30th anniversary show at the Skylight at Moynihan station, one of New York Fashion Week's new official spaces as of this season, following a five-year run at Lincoln Center.

Bright white: Each of the dresses focused heavily on texture, with some featuring macrame embellishments (L), while others including sheer cut-out panels (C) or fringed trim (R)

The bodycon dresses shown on the catwalk at the show featured a variety of unique embellishments, from fringe trims and sheer cut-out panels to metallic studs, gold zippers and fun floral prints, perfect for the spring season.

Color-wise, Mr Azria stuck to a fairly simple palette of muted pastel tones, with bright whites and creams also featuring heavily throughout the collection.

One of the more unique looks from the collection saw models wearing flared dresses over a pair of bell-bottom or cropped trousers, with one look featuring a yellow, red, and blue dress worn over some cream flared trousers, while another saw a thick cream dress paired with some bright white cropped trousers.

The models all wore their hair pinned back with pretty braids adding an interesting texture to the otherwise-simple style.

According to MAC make-up artist Val Garland, the beauty look was intended to give each model a 'cool' look in order to balance out the overtly-sexy style of the skin-tight dresses.

'The clothes are body con, so we needed a cool look - you can’t have sexy make-up with sexy clothes,' she told WWD.

Former Nickelodeon star Victoria Justice showcased a bright blue Hervé Léger design on the front row, while model Charlotte McKinney opted for a little black dress.

Supermodel Petra Nemcova, however, was the most colorful of the bunch, choosing a multi-colored dress, which she paired with a pair of simple strappy heels and a small black handbag.

Steal the spotlight in a strapless dress like Charlotte

They're known for their form fitting bandage dresses. But at the Herve Leger fashion show at NYFW, designers Max and Lubov Azria stepped away from their signature look when they showed jumpsuits, flare pants and A-line frocks.

Of course the bodycon silhouette was present as well and there were fringed pieces like the embellished number Charlotte McKinney wore to the show. Her strapless confection was dotted with tiny grommets which she wore with a pair of barely there black sandals.

If you want the Charlotte's sexy look, click right to buy her dress at Neiman Marcus for $1900. Or save with the options in our edit below. The Aidan Mattox version is almost a spitting image of the original or spend a bit more on the showstopper by Tamara Mellon.
