Good Samaritans lift car off man, 69, pinned underneath tire after a hit-and-run accident

  • Victim was taken to hospital where he was in critical but stable condition

A 69-year-old man was freed from under the tire of vehicle by a group of good Samaritans after he was left pinned under it following a hit-and-run accident. 

Several people who saw the crash pulled their strength together to lift the 1997 red Acura from off of the unidentified man who was struck by the car last Friday in Bronx, New York.

The man was hit by the car while walking in a crosswalk at Boynton Avenue and Westchester Avenue around 11am before being dragged for a quarter of a mile down the block, witnesses told CBS.

Witnesses also said that the driver kept going after striking the man, whose clothes were left torn and tattered, and eventually fled from his car.

Some witnesses tried to run after the driver but he got away, CBS reported.

One of the people who helped free the man from under the car was 73-year-old Orlando Urena who said he tried to lift it himself but was unable to so he called others for help.

The hit-and-run victim was transported to Jacobi Medical Center where authorities said he is in critical but stable condition.

Video footage taken at the scene showed emergency responders placing a neck brace on the man.

Following the incident, the driver remained on the lose according to previous reports.
