Three brothers have been shot dead by a man who then killed himself on his driveway in rural Louisiana.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said the four bodies were discovered after an argument broke out at about 12.30am in Baker, near Baton Rouge.

The suspected shooter was identified as Rodney Chemin, 60, who is said to have killed Joseph Allen, 57, and his younger brothers Perry, 55, and Mark, 51.

Casey Rayborn Hicks, a spokeswoman for the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, said that the four men had been watching football and listening to music at a neighbor's house before the shootings.

But they got into an argument over the music, and Chemin later shot the brothers before turning the gun on himself, Hicks told the New Orleans Advocate.

All four were found dead outside Chemin's house on Talmadge Crumholt Road – a private street that winds through property owned by Chemin and his extended family.

The disagreement began at his cousin Dwayne Crumholt’s house, where several people had gathered to watch the LSU football game on Saturday night, according to the Advocate.

Hicks said that Chemin had gone home shortly after midnight and had been followed by the Allen brothers.

Minutes later, Crumholt’s daughter Jessica said she heard several shots. Her father went to investigate and found the four bodies in Chemin’s driveway.

Friends said they were shocked by what had happened, saying Chemin was a 'good guy'.

Neighbor Suzanne Wheeler told KPLC-TV: 'It just doesn’t make sense. Totally out of character for something like this to happen.

'He cared about everybody. He would never hurt anybody. He was a good guy, real nice, always helpful.'
