Swansea recall Modou Barrow from Blackburn Rovers after allowing Nathan Dyer to join Leicester

  • Modou Barrow made five appearances for Blackburn Rovers during a loan
  • Nathan Dyer's Leicester loan move had left Swansea short of extra cover
  • Gambian has returned to the Liberty Stadium to compete with Andre Ayew
  • Barrow signed a four-year contract in January with the South Wales club

Swansea City have recalled Modou Barrow just one month into his loan spell at Blackburn to cover for the deadline-day departure of Nathan Dyer.

Dyer’s exit on a shock loan move to Leicester came after the right winger fell behind Andre Ayew in Garry Monk’s plans.

Barrow will now fill the void in the squad, having initially expected to spend three months at Blackburn.

The 22-year-old Gambian made five appearances for the Championship club, but suddenly has a fresh opportunity to establish himself in the Premier League.

He was signed from Swedish clubs Ostersunds for £1.5million in 2014 and is highly rated by Swansea coaching staff, who regard him as one of the quickest players in the squad.

He was given a new four-year contract in January before spending part of the season on loan at Nottingham Forest.

Barrow won his second cap for Gambia during his country's African Cup of Nations defeat to Cameroon on Sunday, and he is the only representative of the African country currently plying their trade in the Premier League.
