But they are expected to be allowed to continue to offer free accounts which smaller so-called challenger banks have attacked amid claims that they stifle competition.

My 85-year-old mother decided to move her savings from Co-op Bank to the Post Office. Her Isa account transferred without problem, but the savings account still hasn't been opened, despite a cheque for £3,534.91 being paid in. She is unable to access this money.
