Paul Walker's daughter Meadow has started a charitable foundation in his name.

The 16-year-old launched The Paul Walker Foundation on Sunday, what would have been 42nd birthday.

As the website went live she paid tribute to her actor father with an impassioned tweet, accompanied by a picture of her with her father as a child.

'I am tremendously proud to be launching The Paul Walker Foundation (on his birthday,' she wrote.

'I can't think of a better way to celebrate my father.' She tagged her message 'Do Good'.

The foundation will give scholarships to teens passionate about the ocean, and will work in collaboration with the world-renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Fast And The Furious star Walker was passionate about sea life, explained Meadow.

'Reflecting on my father, I found myself reflecting on his passions,' she wrote.

'His passion for the ocean, his passion for rescuing animals, his passion for helping people and his passion for spontaneous goodwill.

'I wanted to start this foundation because I want to share that piece of him with the world. I want to share that part of him with others.'

Walker studied marine biology at college before turning to acting.

A statement on the foundation's website explained: 'His passion was the ocean. He spent most of his free time in the ocean.'

After finding fame as an actor, Walker continued to indulge his interest in the ocean.

Indeed just a week before his tragic death in a car accident in 2013 Walker filmed a TV show about sharks.
