Toni Collette displays tiny frame and cropped hairdo Miss You Already premiere after shaving head for cancer patient role

She shed weight to portray a fun-loving cancer patient in the film. 

And actress Toni Collette put her lithe frame on display at the premiere for Missing You Already on Saturday. 

Dressed in a fitted satin gown, the Australian actress beamed for photographers at the Toronto Film Festival where the film was shown for the first time.

Wearing her blonde hair styled in a tidy crop, the 42-year-old oozed glamour in her white and yellow gown. 

Keeping accessories to a minimum, she carried a small, gold clutch, matching bangle and large gold earrings. 

The Muriel's Wedding starlet showed off a sun-kissed complexion, sporting heavy eye make-up and just a slick of nude lipstick.

She was joined on the red carpet by co-star Drew Barrymore, with the two actress sharing an enthusiastic embrace when they crossed paths.

Collette and Barrymore play best friends Milly and Jess in Miss You Already, directed by Twighlight's Catherine Hardwick.  

The film sees Collette's character battle breast cancer while Jess tries to start a family.

As Milly's health deteriorates, she becomes thinner and loses her hair to chemotherapy. Collette, who famously piled on the pounds for her breakthrough role as Muriel in Muriel's Wedding, did the same to identify with character.

Speaking before she shaved her head last year, the actress told how it wasn't the first time she had cut her hair off. 

'Shaving your head is like a cleanse for me, you know? That's what it feels like. A fresh start,' she told Edit magazine.

'It comes from not wanting to feel boxed in because people assume they know who I am. We're constantly evolving.' 

Collette was initially tied to the film to play Barrymore's character but was later changed.

It is Barrymore's first project since the birth of her second child.
