SPOILER ALERT: Travis Manawa refuses to believe in zombies despite obvious signs of flesh eaters on Fear The Walking Dead

Travis Manawa has yet to learn to Fear The Walking Dead.

In the third episode of the hit drama titled The Dog, Travis proved the hero - despite failing to believe that the zombies threatening their existence were really the walking dead.

As he was first attacked by zombie neighbor Peter, Travis refused to let anyone hurt him, instead trying to reason with him.

He was only saved when Daniel Salazar stepped in and shot the zombie neighbor point blank in the head.

'What did you do?' Travis asked angrily, seemingly unaware he had been saved and later refusing to burn the body to stop any contamination.

And when his girlfriend Madison Clark went out to try to kill her neighbor and close friend Susan with a hammer, Travis - who had casually greeted Susan as if nothing was wrong - once again stepped forward and stopped her from acting.

'She's your friend,' Travis told Madison

'All the more reason. She's dead,' Madison replied.

'You don't know that,' Travis insisted, taking the hammer from her hand. 'It's not your call.'

Nick also had tried to reason with Travis that he was not facing reality.

'She's not sick - she's dead,' Nick said of Susan.

'Why would you say that?' Travis asked.

'Because it's the truth,' Nick replied.

His lack of action sparked clear hostility from Daniel, who was at the house after his wife Griselda was badly injured as they all fled his barbershop from the looting and rioting taking over the city.

'Weak,' he said dismissively after watching Travis stop Madison butcher Susan.

It was also Daniel's reason for insisting his family stay at the house and not go with Travis and his family as they prepared to escape the zombie zone.

When Daniel's daughter Ofelia pointed out that 'they are good people', Daniel insisted: 'Good people are the first to die.'

Further proof that Travis had yet to understand the severity of the situation came when he flipped out seeing Daniel trying to teach his son Chris how to use a shotgun that Madison's son Nick had stolen from their neighbor's home.

'The more the boy knows the safer he will be,' Daniel told him, with Madison agreeing that she 'didn't see anything wrong with it'.

'You now how I feel about guns,' Travis complained.

'The gun doesn't care how you feel about it,' Daniel shot back.

The tension between Travis's view of the situation compared to Madison also created an unexpected connection between her and Travis's ex-wife Liza, who was staying with them after also escaping the barbershop.

Liza had approached Madison when they both found themselves unable to sleep at night, telling her: 'I know we're not friends. I'm saying this to you as a mother - we should support each other, you and me. The kids need it. They need reassurance right now.'

But Madison insisted it was something else she needed from her - a promise she would kill her if she ended up a zombie like the neighbor patrolling outside their home.

'That woman outside, that's Susan. She worked for my kids when I went to work. Took care of me after my husband died,' Madison told her.

'If ever I end up like her I need you to take care of it. Don't make Travis do it. It would break him,' she ordered.

After escaping the barbershop, Travis initially wanted to take Griselda to the hospital.

They ended up having to drive off after seeing police quarantine the area and shoot down one of the patients-turned-zombies.

Travis arrived home just as zombie neighbor Peter was devouring a dog that had come to Madison's house.

Madison, Alicia and Nick meanwhile were at the neighbor's house where Nick knew there was a shotgun.

'I tried to steal it once,' said addict Nick, still mostly preoccupied with making sure he had enough drugs.

When they ran back to save Travis, Alicia returned to get shotgun shells she left behind - and was attacked by Susan, with Chris finally saving her - and getting elbowed in the face for doing so.

Travis then infuriated Madison by refusing to leave that night, despite her pleading: 'This thing is getting worse, not better - it's not safe.'

'We ride it out for the night, OK? Take care of each other,' Travis replied. 'Trust me Madi.'

When Madison later said she feared she had lost him, Travis promised: 'You're never gonna lose me. I won't leave you again.'

When Travis and his family finally started leaving in the morning, they had left Susan still roaming free as a zombie - with heartbreaking scenes of her husband arriving home unawares, going up to hug her with a shocked look on his face.

Just as Madison tried to stop him, a soldier shot Susan in the head - the first sign that the military had arrived to lock down the neighborhood, spraying contaminated houses.

'The cavalry's arrived,' Travis said as soldiers busied themselves around them. 'It's gonna get better now.'

But Daniel, looking from a window inside the house, predicted: 'It's already too late.'
