SPOILER ALERT: 'David Platt is capable of murder': Jack P Shepherd teases a dramatic Corrie twist as live episode looms

Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd is adamant his character, David Platt, is capable of murder as the soap's hotly-anticipated live episode looms.

The ITV soap celebrates its 60th anniversary next Wednesday and producers are pulling out all the stops to ensure it goes down with a bang - and it looks as though David could have landed the brunt end of the deal.

The cocky hairdresser has been pushed to his limit by Kylie (Paula Lane)'s drug dealer ex-boyfriend Callum Logan (Sean Ward) and Jack says David would do 'anything to protect his family'.

Speaking to The Sun, the actor explained: 'He has always wanted a family unit has David and he will do anything he can in his power to keep that unit together.

'David is just as capable of murder as Callum,' he added.

Jack has already appeared in two live episodes and is very familiar with the writers' tendencies to kill characters off in the landmark episodes.

And his ominous comments come after he revealed that his current contract is up after the live show, although he says he'd be sad to leave Weatherfield after 15 years on the show.

David, Callum and the rest of the Platts will be at the centre of the live action having become embroiled in a bitter custody row over David’s stepson - Calum and Kylie's son - Max.

Asked about the pressure of performing live Jack admitted he's worried about 'getting the giggles'.

And in photos released on Tuesday, the Platts are shocked to hear the police had to release Callum on bail.

In scenes due to air next Monday, DS Tyler explains that Callum is back on the loose and asks the Platts to notify him if he threatens them.

The fearful keep running for their lives, racing through shops and houses, until they think they've shaken him off.

But just at the moment when they think they've lost him, it's revealed they've come face-to-face with a sheer drop - the end of the street has fallen away and it's been replaced with a rock face.

It's not the only cliffhanger that fans of the soap have to contend with, as it was recently revealed that Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) and Carla Connor (Alison King) are set to clash in a deadly clifftop fight.

The dramatic moment will see a desperate Carla Connor on the edge of devastation, swigging from bottles of alcohol while tossing a coin to determine her fate, to see whether or not she will plummet to her death.

The lingerie factory boss clearly reaches breaking point as her life hangs in the balance while grappling with Tracy on top of a 100ft cliff edge.

Despite their past history - it's no secret that the pair are enemies - it seems that Tracy talks Carla out of doing the unthinkable, but it's not clear whether Carla survives or not.

And as Alison has suggested that she wants to take a sabbatical in 2016, perhaps Tracy cannot convince her foe that her life is not worth saving.

A spokesman said: 'Alison King has indicated to producers that she would like to take a sabbatical from the show for creative reasons at some point in 2016.

'She wishes to try her hand at other projects before returning to the part of Carla, a role she has enjoyed playing for nine years.'
