Defenceless pensioner is knocked out cold in shocking, unprovoked attack in the middle of Russian supermarket

This is the shocking moment a man punched a grandmother to the ground as she stood beside him in line at a Russian supermarket.

Violent Vitaliy Kondratenko, 34, lashed out at defenceless Nina Tulupova, after being handed his change by the cashier.

The callous incident, which happened in the city of Syzran in southern Russia's Samara Oblast, was caught on the shop's CCTV.

The clip finishes with the cashier going to help the 61-year-old, who is left lying on the floor, as shocked shoppers watch the man flee.

The divorced dad-of-two, who has a history of violence, was quickly arrested by police following the incident on September 4.

The shocked victim of the unprovoked attack said she had no idea why he turned on her.

'I was standing next to him in line, was taking out my purse to pay, when he hit me,' Mrs Tulupova told Life News.

'I don't know why he hit me, we never had a fight.

'I have never seen this man before and I do not know who he is... I took everything out of the basket and put it on the counter, put the basket to the right of him - and suddenly found myself on the floor.'

She was taken to hospital where she was treated for severe bruising to her face and a split lip. 

Jobless Kondratenko, who Russia Today reports has now been arrested, claims he cannot remember anything about the incident.

It has been reported that he was divorced after he was violent towards his wife and broke his mother-in-law's rib.
