Making a mug of herself! Demi Lovato INSISTS she was joking after appearing to misunderstand a question about her favorite dish during live TV interview

Demi Lovato is on a promotional tour in Europe for her new album Confident but the language barrier appeared to trip her up during a visit to Berlin.

During a radio interview that the German DJ conducted in English, the 23-year-old singer was asked what her favorite dish is.

Without missing a beat, she answered: 'I like mugs, because they're very comfortable in your hand and they hold hot things that you don't have to touch. So, you know, coffee or hot tea.'

Clearly the intention of the host was to inquire after her favorite food but Demi completely misunderstood the meaning of the question.

Or did she?

As the interview clip and her odd answer went viral on Internet, the Cool For The Summer star insisted she had been joking.

'For anybody who actually thinks I misunderstood the "favorite dish" question - you clearly don't get my sense of humor,' she tweeted.

It isn't the only headline she's been grabbing this week.

During a visit to Britain, she sat down with TV host Alan Carr for an interview during which he asked Demi if the lyrics for Cool For The Summer are about lesbianism.

'I’m not confirming and I’m definitely not denying,' she said. 'All of my songs are based off of personal experiences... I don’t think there is anything wrong with experimentation at all... [I'm not saying] it didn’t stick either.'

Stirring debate: The 23-year-old also performed on a British TV show and told the host Alan Carr that her hit Cool For The Summer may - or may not be - about lesbianism

As well as hinting at her past relationships, the brunette beauty also divulged that she is better within herself.

Demi has been very open in the past about battling depression, suffering with eating disorders and dealing with self-harm, however she insists this album, as the name hints, marks her more confident self.

She told Alan: 'I think there was something very liberating over this past year when I really honestly stopped caring.

'Now if I see a comment it doesn’t affect me because I’ve become so confident and so comfortable in my own skin that it doesn’t affect me as much as it used to.'
