'Mummy, I think I want to play football': Victoria Beckham confesses that Harper's love of sport is a 'dagger to my heart'

Earlier this year she joked that having a daughter who 'loves football' is 'like a dagger' through the heart.

But former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham has re-iterated her comments in a brand new interview with Good Morning America, which aired on Monday.

The brunette star, 41, repeated her opinion while speaking to ABC News’ Amy Robach following her successful appearance at New York Fashion Week.

Do the splits in a midi skirt like Victoria's

Long gone are the days of pencil dresses and platform heels for Posh Spice. Victoria Beckham is taking inspiration from former bandmate Mel C and embracing a slightly sportier vibe for Spring 2016.

Her latest show at New York Fashion Week included models wearing bomber jackets, surf board prints and a whole lot of gingham. Sorry Mel B, not a spot of leopard print in sight! But of course, the star of the whole shebang was the designer herself, who made an appearance at the end looking sleek in top-to-toe black.

Hers might not have been one of the catwalk looks, but this outfit is just as indicative of what's to come next year. We love the midi length of her simple skirt, which is counterbalanced by a subtly sexy split up the front. When teamed with a plunging oversized black blouse and a tousled ponytail, she's elegance personified.

If you're feeling inspired by VB you don't have to wait until 2016. Take a look at our edit below for some split front skirts that will do the trick! And from Asos to Adam Lippes, we've got all budgets covered.

'She loves fashion, you know, as all little girls do… but she loves sports,' Beckham said of daughter Harper.

'She said to me the other day "Mummy, I think I want to play football [soccer]."

'Dagger through the heart! I have three boys that want to play football, you know, come on, let one of them want to be into fashion or dance.'

Fortunately, she was only being half-serious, but it suggests that Harper, 4, truly is a daddy's girl.

In June, football star David, 40, posted an adorable snap on his Instagram of the 'tomboy' tot scoring a goal in the back garden of the family's London home.

With her back towards the camera, the cute youngster appeared to be deep in concentration as she aimed the ball at her target.

Looking the part, Harper had her long brunette hair braided down her back, and was even wearing tiny pink football boots as she enjoyed a little kickaround with her dad.

Retired soccer legend David joked that his only daughter was following in the footsteps of her footie-mad older brothers - Brooklyn, 16, Romeo, 12, and Cruz, 10 - as he compared her to top American player, Mia Hamm.

Posting the sweet snap on his Instagram page on Friday morning, the former Manchester United and England star wrote alongside a heart emoji: 'Mia Hamm eat your heart out Harper Seven taking lessons from her brothers ( oh and her dad ).' (sic)

The photographic evidence of Harper's passion for the beautiful game comes after Victoria, 41, admitted her daughter 'loves' football.

Speaking as part of a Fashion Icons talk with Fern Mallis in New York on Wednesday, she said: 'Harper loves football. It’s like a dagger going into my heart!

'She’s got little shoes and a little football shirt and she runs around in the garden with her brothers. So as much as she is girly, she’s a tomboy as well.'

Former Spice Girl Victoria also revealed how thrilled she and David were when they found out they were having a fourth child.

She added: 'I was told when I had my scan that I was having another boy at first. I felt so lucky to be pregnant, so whether Harper was going to be a boy or a girl I felt very blessed.'

But the successful fashion designer ruled out adding to the Beckham brood with a fifth child.

'No!', Victoria said, when asked if another bundle of joy would be appearing in the future. 'I’ve got four! I feel like I’ve done my bit.'

David has previously admitted little Harper is a girl with two sides, joking that one minute she'll be dressed as a ballerina, and the next she'll be in a football kit.

He told Glamour magazine: 'Harper's wearing Victoria's heels every single day. She walks into the house and puts her ballerina outfit on and a pair of heels.

'She's very funny because she also wears the boys' football boots.'
