Bouches-du-Rhône department

Bouches-du-Rhône (Occitan: Bocas de Ròse) is a department in the south of France. It was named after the Rhône River. It is one of the first 83 departments made during the French revolution. The population was 1,835,719 in 1999. Its prefecture is Marseille.
