In the film, which is based on a true story, Mara plays Ashley Smith, who was taken hostage for even hours by Brian Nichols after he killed four people while escaping from a courthouse.
Amazingly, meth addict Smith managed to convince him to set her free and turn her life around by reading Nichols Bible passages and sharing stories about her life and family.

'She and I became close,' Mara told The New York Daily News.
'I mean I would constantly text her questions as simple as, "What kind of music were you listening to at the time, and were your nails painted?"'
