Speed read: Add some specs appeal to your wardrobe as geek chic returns

Geek chic is back, as fashion labels have decreed it cool to look nerdy.

Giant oversized glasses have been given the designer stamp of approval with Marc Jacobs, Paul Smith and J Crew sending bespectacled models down catwalks.

The High Street is awash with faux glasses. ASOS and Urban Outiftters are so far leading the pack for cheap, bright designs. A strong frame instantly looks edgy and adds elegance to the face.

Look to Alexa Chung, Julia Roberts, Johnny Depp or even Jarvis Cocker for inspiration as this is a unisex style. It’s time to add some specs appeal to your wardrobe.

HOW TO WEAR

A thick, black frame can wash out a fair complexion, so choose warm brown or tortoiseshell.

Try before you buy or make sure your specs are returnable online because it’s hard to judge until you see them on your face.

If you go for some really giant frames keep an eye on the thickness. There’s a thin line between stylish and swottish.
