  • The billionaire challenged his other Republican rivals to go after him

Don't dump on the Donald, billionaire Donald Trump is warning his GOP rivals just days after Rick Perry's campaign bit the dust.

'I hope they attack me, because everybody who attacks me is doomed,' Trump told the Wall Street Journal

In his three month bid for the White House, Perry had plenty of bad things to say about Trump, at one point calling him a 'cancer on conservatism.'

'He offers a barking carnival act that can be best described as Trumpism: a toxic mix of demagoguery, mean-spiritedness and nonsense that will lead the Republican Party to perdition if pursued,' said Perry in July. 'Let no one be mistaken: Donald Trump's candidacy is a cancer on conservatism, and it must be clearly diagnosed, excised and discarded.'

The two also brawled on Texas border security, which Trump called a failure.

'He should be forced to take an IQ test before being allowed to enter the GOP debate,' Trump added in a tweet about Perry.

In Iowa, Donald Trump wished Rick Perry a sarcastic 'good luck' after the governor dropped out. 'He was very nasty to me' Trump said of Perry

In recent weeks, Trump said publicly several times that Perry was already out of the presidential race. Perry had stopped paying staff in August, due to financial troubles.

The actual announcement about Perry's exit came on Friday in St. Louis and Perry used the speech to make a slight swipe at Trump.

'The conservative movement has always been about principles, not personalities,' Perry said. 'Our nominee should embrace those principles. He — or she — must make the cause for the cause of conservatism more than the cause of their own celebrity.'

Rival Rand Paul showed Perry support.

'What does it say about GOP when a 3 & a half term Gov w/ a successful record of creating jobs bows out as a reality star leads in the polls?' Paul tweeted.

His complaints were echoed by a number of talking heads, who saw Perry's exit as collateral damage in the over-Trumped Republican primary race.

'Even if you celebrate the free-market nature of elections, it's still irksome to think a guy who cares neither about the future of the Republican Party nor the survival of conservatism has elbowed out one of the right's most capable leaders,' CNN's S.E. Cupp told the Washington Post

Trump, campaigning in Iowa, had his own style of goodbye for Perry.

'Mr. Perry, he's gone, good luck,' Trump said. 'He was very nasty to me.'
