Caitlyn Jenner breaks down in tears after emotional renaming ceremony... but none of her children attend the landmark event on I Am Cait

Caitlyn Jenner shed tears of joy as she formally took on her new identity with her new 'family' on Sunday's season finale of I Am Cait.

The  E! documentary series following the former Olympian's transition ended with Caitlyn serenaded by Boy George and bursting into tears at a formal naming ceremony for her.

Earlier she had been accused by ex-wife Kris Jenner of 'leaving behind' her family - and tellingly none of them were at the naming ceremony.

Instead, Caitlyn addressed her newer transgender friends there to support her, tearfully telling them: 'I feel at home and I have a family.'

'The last few months for me have been the most amazing months of my life,' Caitlyn insisted through tears, thanking the women she calls 'her tribe' for being 'so gracious with their love for me'.

'I'm in a great place in life - and for the first time I feel that I fit in some place. Being my authentic self.'

Talking to the cameras, Caitlyn also insisted: 'I am blessed in so many ways, and at this point in my life I feel so unbelievably comfortable with the decisions I have made. I see so much love and support it's just absolutely unbelievable.

'The transgender community - this is my place, and this is where I belong. And it's a good feeling.'

She ended the series by addressing a webcam alone, with no make-up on, saying: 'I wanna help people in my community. We have a long way to go, but at least we got a really, really, really good beginning. And that makes my heart feel good.'

Despite the joyful ending, the latest episode also captured Caitlyn's biggest challenge since transitioning - an awkward confrontation with ex-wife Kris who she revealed had not spoken to her for six months before their sit down at Caitlyn's home.

'I just felt thrown under the bridge,' Kris told her of her silence. 'I really was blindsided in a lot of ways.'

But Caitlyn said she was particularly hurt at not being invited to daughter Kylie's gradation, telling Kris: 'I was so disappointed in everybody.

'For 15 years of my life I carpooled kids every day - some days I would spend three or four hours a day in the car - a slap in the face when you don't even get invited to their graduation.'

But Kris stressed: 'Listen, usually people that get a divorce don't do everything together. It wasn't malicious.'

It was Kris who then got tearful when she told him how painful she found his dismissive comments about her in his big sit-down tell all with Vanity Fair.

'I didn't understand why you felt the need to criticize or make me look bad,' she said.

'Like, did you live in the same house that I lived in? Because it was f***ing amazing.

'And I worked really hard, and I took care of you for decades. And so to have - what did you say? I mistreated you - it was like, “Mistreated you?”'

Choking back more tears, she continued: 'And it just killed me. Because it wasn't true. What happened to just the life we had together - you just throw that away? How much fun we had, the kids we raised, and Christmas Eves and just every single thing we did.

'So it's very difficult to hear when you feel like you gave your whole life to somebody that the sum of it all was you were a distraction. And so that killed me,' Kris said.

'Our relationship was a great relationship for many, many years,' Caitlyn assured Kris. 'Loved you, adored you, we had a lot of great years together. I have no regrets for that.

'It was a distraction from the sense of who I was,' she explained.

Steal Caitlyn's style in a jersey dress by James Perse

Caitlyn Jenner has definitely been taking style tips from her famous family.

We've spotted her wearing labels like Frame Denim, Rails and Iro - all Kardashian/Jenner approved brands. But the gray dress that she wore for her first meeting with Kris is classic Kim!

It's by James Perse and we love the figure-flattering ruched details down the sides, as well as the super soft jersey texture. It's a signature style that Kim has been spotted wearing many times, and it's a versatile piece that can be dressed up with heels and a duster coat à la Kim or down with flat sandals like Caitlyn.

Unfortunately this exact style is now sold out, but click (right) to buy a similar sleeveless version at Nordstrom. Or take a look at the gorgeous gray dresses we've got lined up for you in the edit below.

'I didn't have to deal with myself and who my soul was - that's the distraction.'

Caitlyn also insisted that his transition was far from the main reason for their split.

'I would say the reason for our breakup was about 80 percent about the way you were treating mean 20 percent on gender issues,' she told Kris.

'I did not leave you thinking I was going to transition, OK? No. I didn't know what I was going to do. I never thought I'd be here.

'And I'm really happy for you, I really am,' Kris insisted through more tears. 'Because I want you to be happy.'

But she told her: 'You're sensitive and amazing to all of these new people in your life - you're just not so sensitive and amazing to this side of the family that you left behind.

'I was struggling and having a really hard time with your transition and this, like, leaving us in the dust. You left us in the dust and I went through a hard time.'

Kris added: 'I'm trying to be understanding of the way that you feel and the way that you've made this huge change in our life, and I try to understand you and be accepting.

'But you are just more stubborn and won't try to see my point of view in that, what that was hurtful.'

Kris also told Caitlyn: 'I know you say you haven't gone anywhere and you're still the same person - but sometimes they just miss having Bruce around. We all do.'

It clearly touched a nerve, with Caitlyn later admitting to camera: 'One of the most difficult things to deal with is that sense of grief that my family seems to be dealing with about this transition. I wish that my happiness could be their happiness.

'The key is to have patience. Keep love in your heart, stay committed to the goal, and I am really hopeful that Kris and I can do that.'

In fact, the awkward meeting ended on a more positive note - albeit still tense and awkward - as they posed together for a selfie, with Caitlyn kissing Kris on the cheek as she took the photo.

Cait had also teased Kris about hanging out together, asking if they could go shopping. 'Let's not get carried away,' Kris laughed.

But Kris appeared open to more communication, telling Cait: 'Obviously it's really important for the kids to have you as a big part of their life.

'I think that we just have to get used to our new normal.'

Outside of the meeting, Kris opened up about how much of the tension may have been down to the part of Caitlyn's personality that had always rubbed her the wrong way.

'One of the things I used to notice is that Bruce wan't as sensitive as I wished he was. I think I just used to chalk it up to the fact that, ya know, he was a guy,' she said.

'But I'm kind of realizing now that maybe it's just Bruce-slash-Caitlyn's personality, both of them if you will. It's just the way she is,' Kris said.

In the build up to Boy George performing at Caitlyn's naming ceremony, the pair met backstage at the singer's show at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles where Caitlyn got a standing ovation while introducing him.

Caitlyn told the Culture Club legend: 'I remember you back in the '80s and I had obviously all of my issues and this and that and obviously I followed you and I'm so glad to see you back and be here tonight and celebrate that.'

George told her: 'You have this wonderful opportunity to do so much good.'

Of his own influence on the community, George said: 'I can't say that I was leading a political thing, it was just me being myself - which in and of itself is quite powerful.

'It might have been blind self-importance but it had a massive effect. And I'm only really enjoying that now because I'm sober and I'm sensible.'

George posed for a photo with Caitlyn and many of her friends with her - including Candis Cayne, Chandi Moore and Jenny Boylan - seeing them all later at the naming ceremony.

While the series ended on a positive note, viewers were still left with one clear mystery - the status of Caitlyn's relationship with Candis, who was seen nervously rehearsing for a performance of Amazing Grace at the naming ceremony.

There, she had jokingly referred to Caitlyn as 'my wifey' - yet throughout they had merely kissed on the cheek in front of everyone.

But perhaps most telling was when Kris had earlier asked her: 'So wait, are you dating this girl called Candis?'

Caitlyn pointedly remained silent, avoiding eye contact by staring at her phone as she laughed, leaving his ex to smile knowingly and say: 'Hmmmm, OK.'

Despite not elaborating on their relationship, Candis insisted she felt 'blessed to be a part of Caitlyn's journey'.
