In addition to the bands and chevron, a white star with seven points is featured on the hoist side of the red chevron. The star stands for the unity of the Arab people.[3] It is also said to stand for the seven verses of the first surah in the Qur'an,[2] or refer to the seven hills on which Amman, the capital, was built. The seven points represent faith in one God, humanity, humility, national spirit, virtue, social justice, and aspiration.[citation needed]
