As Johnny Depp and Dakota Johnson continue to promote their new movie Black Mass, the actors showed off rather contrasting looks on the red carpet on Monday.

Johnson, 25, looked effortlessly stylish in a striped wrap dress and lace-up heels as she joined Depp, 52 at a press conference for the movie at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The Fifty Shades Of Grey beauty wore her shoulder-length tresses in tousled waves and wore just a hint of make-up for a natural look.

Depp wore paint-splattered jeans and a waistcoat over a linen shirt and finishing the look, he added a skinny scarf and flat cap.

As the duo sat down to talk to reporters, Depp displayed a surprisingly bloated appearance and rounded physique.

The actor plays crime boss James 'Whitey' Bulger in the upcoming biopic and Johnson plays his girlfriend Lindsey Cyr.

When asked on NBC's Today Show last week about working with Depp, Johnson gushed: ‘It was so wonderful and special,' she said. 'Such a lucky situation to be able to work closely and intimately with one of the most phenomenal actors of our time. It’s really awesome.'

And in a recent interview with AnOther she talked more about her time on set with the Pirates Of The Caribbean heartthrob and how they bonded over their mutual friendship with author Hunter S. Thompson.

'It was cool because we have a connection in having known Hunter Thompson. My dad was quite close with Hunter.

'I spent a lot of time in Woody Creek as a kid and he was a magical person to me. He would come into the driveway at odd hours and rearrange rocks and things… He'd bring me odd gifts, like bird collars, or weird fishing gear.

'Whenever I'd see him, he would bend down and take his hat off and I would pat his bald spot. I have no idea why! It was a thing we did…'

Whitey is an 86-year-old convicted murderer and a former organized crime boss of the Boston Irish mob crew known as the Winter Hill Gang.

He went into hiding in December 1994 and remained at large until he was arrested outside an apartment in Santa Monica, California, along with his then girlfriend Catherine Greig.

Whitey is currently serving double life at the Coleman II Penitentiary in Sumterville, Florida.

Black Mass is due for release on September 18.
