They also went on to share an interesting tidbit regarding 'verified' accounts - those little blue ticks that show a Twitter account is the real deal - revealing there is a special notification tab for other verified users; this means that celebs know when other celebs tweet about them, without being annoyed by billions of fans begging them for a follow or a happy birthday.
But choicest among the fake tweets had to be 'I Love u @ninadobrev' - an awkward reminder of his former relationship with Nina. She is rumoured to have decided to leave The Vampire Diaries after he got together with her friend Nikki.
Sensing that the Twitter police were closing in, they posted 'before I get locked out I just wanna say this has been a great experience', before one final tweet: 'I am so sorry'.

A source close to the actor confirmed his account had been hacked but failed to specify how it had happened.
However Twitter users have been randomly granted access to other user's accounts in the past.
Online reaction for the most part was one of general amusement, with many pointing out how tame and polite the hacker was.
Many also urged @clou9nin3 to read the TV star's direct messages: 'for everyone asking me to read my DMs i literally cant they are going too fast,' they later tweeted from their own account.

Although the real Ian Somerhalder is a self-confessed techie, he admitted in an interview with CNET he was in wary of the dangers of the speed of social media, and its tendency to replace human contact - ironically one week before he obliviously cyber-declared his love for is ex-girlfriend to his 6million followers.
'The amazing thing about the tech world, when you look at, say, social networking and social media, is that they allow us to transfer information literally at the snap of a finger,' he said.
'However, we've become so reliant on tech that we no longer rely on each other. It breaks my heart sometimes when you sit at a restaurant and you see a husband and wife and their two kids texting at the table - sometimes the kids are just texting each other. We don't talk to each other.
When you look down at your phone and it says 3G and you say, "Oh, my God, it's just 3G," that is a disease. That is a 21st-century disease.'
