'I can't even go to a gas station bathroom!' Ronda Rousey discusses the downsides to her meteoric rise to fame as she reveals she is the highest-paid athlete in the UFC

  • The UFC bantamweight champion shared all of things she wish she'd known before she was famous
  • These days, the 28-year-old can't eat at restaurants, use public restrooms, or go to the grocery store without being stopped by fans
  • She said even though her love life isn't more 'interesting' — because she has little time to date — people are more interested in it
  • While she is the highest-paid UFC athlete, she has no time to shop — but luckily, she gets lots of free sneakers from sponsors

UFC fighter Ronda Rousey has been winning in the ring for years, but the 28-year-old bantamweight champ reached a whole new level of super-stardom this year.

And while success is great — especially since she is now the highest-paid athlete in UFC — the 28-year-old notes that it's definitely meant some major adjustments.

She recently opened up to Cosmopolitan.com about all the things she wished she'd known before she became the most famous fighter in the world, including that she can barely nip into a public bathroom without being stopped and now has more sneakers than she knows what to do with.

The award recipient went for a black and white mini dress with polka mesh detailing on the sleeves and the waist.

Although, we would have like to see her in a something less busy, it doesn't take away from the fact that the dress is a great piece by Inas Couture.

The dress is unavailable but you can take a look at our style edit below.

Fame seems to have changed everything for Ronda — even the most normal, day to day tasks are no longer as easy as they used to be.

'I can't go to the bathroom at a gas station without somebody being like, "Hey, what's up?!"' she said. 'Then a five-minute errand ends up taking 20 minutes. If I'm with other people and we're in a hurry, I can be lazier, like, "Go inside and grab something for me."'

But it's not just gas runs that are more complicated for the California native — going out to eat is no picnic either. Ronda said that after training, she 'literally double-fist[s]' food, like a wrap and a salad, at her favorite restaurant, but it's hard to actually chow down because she'll be approached by fans several times over the course of a meal. She can't even get in five bites in a row anymore before someone stops to say hi — she knows, because she counts!

But while friends and family who are out eating with her might lose their patience with the constant interruptions, Ronda is graceful about it. She admitted that she's actually happy to talk to people —- except when it means that her wrap falls apart because she has to pick it up and put it down too many times. In other words, don't mess with this girl's lunch.

But while it's one thing when fans just say hello, it's quite another when they feel entitled to know her business.

'When I'm recognized in public, complete strangers will ask me, "Hey, what are you doing here?" I'm like, "I don't know you — I wouldn't ask you what you're doing here because you're a stranger. Maybe I'm here to buy tampons. You don't need to know about my cycle. It's none of your business."'

Those people are interested in her love life, too, even if her love life isn't actually getting more 'interesting'. Though Ronda is rumored to be seeing UFC heavyweight Travis Browne, the mixed martial artist said she doesn't have 'a lot of time for dating'.

And while she neither confirmed nor denied the recent romantic development, she did explain that there is a difference between the public's perception of her and who she really is.

A lot of people 'idolize' her, but they don't all see her accurately, she said. Still, she knows that with fame comes responsibility. So even though she doesn't actually feel like a role model to the strangers who see her as one, she is 'happy to play the part'.

It probably doesn't hurt that all of those strange encounters and misconceptions also come with quite a bit of cash. Ronda noted that the UFC is the only sport 'where the highest paid athlete is a woman' — that is, her — and she makes more money from the organization than book sales or appearances — which also pad her wallet.

'It’s pretty cool. It’s fun to say,' she told Ellen DeGeneres, during her first ever appearance on the TV host’s daytime talk show, prompting Ellen to joke back: 'Because you’ll kick their a** if they don’t pay you.'

Ronda did, actually, demonstrate just how easily she could kick a man's — well, you know — on Ellen's show, performing a few judo moves on camera. The judo champ, who started the sport at age 11, had no trouble doing an 'O goshi' throw on the man, picking his body up and slamming it to the ground.

And even though she's out-earning them, Ronda has found that male UFC fighters still respect her. In fact, Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones even told Ronda that he'd been studying videos of her fights and trying to master some of her moves — and asked her for pointers!

But despite have so much money, she hasn't exactly gone on a spending spree, because she doesn't have time. She's only been on one shopping trip in the past year, and a friend had to drag her along.

Luckily, when it comes to athleticwear, she's all set — even without hitting the mall. As a UFC champ, she told Cosmopolitan: 'You can moonlight as a sneaker fairy because you will have too many. If you come into my house and you're a size 8½, you're walking out with multiple pairs of shoes because I have too much stuff and not enough space in my 800-square-foot house. I get so much clothing and footwear for free.'

It's free, but of course, she still works pretty hard for them. Ronda is constantly on the go — the opposite of a 'do nothing b***', her catchphrase for a woman who 'tries to be pretty and be taken care of by someone else'.

While training, she works out constantly and eats a 'strict, precise diet' that she had to cook herself. Her schedule is sometimes so packed that she missed important thins in her personal life, like seeing her nephew for several weeks after he was born.

But she wouldn't do it if she didn't love everything about it — even the 'trash talk' before fights.

Do I ever feel bad about trash-talking? No. I'm helping the other girl pay her bills!

'Whenever I go back and forth with a girl I'm going to fight, it's for a reason — I'm responding to something they said,' she said. 'Because it ends up being entertaining, it helps both of us promote the match-up and the sport as a whole. So do I ever feel bad about trash-talking? No. I'm helping the other girl pay her bills!'

That practical way of looking at it indicates that there a lot more to Ronda's tough girl exterior. She admitted as much in her interview with Ellen, revealing that she's actually quite an emotional person.

'I’m the biggest crier,' she said. 'Especially fight week when I’m about to fight I’m the most emotional. Like my last fight I like totally cried the day before that.

'You’re so amped up and it’s like every emotion that you could possibly have it happens during that week. It’s like the most stress, most anxiety, most pressure possible and then it’s the happiest you could possibly be. It’s all these things and it’s just sometimes you can't hold it in. It’s gotta leak out of somewhere why not your eyes?'
